table top assembly

Hi all,

I’m looking to build a table top for a desk. I would like to avoid warping/cupping as much as possible. Is edge joining three 60” L x 9 1/4” 5/4 white oak boards with biscuits and glue good enough? Any wisdom that can help is greatly appreciated!

I've been using Titebond wood glue to edge glue Cedar,Walnut,Oak and Ash for years and never had a failure. Biscuits add additional strength. I've never tried wider than 6" but 9" might be fine iif material is quarter sawn. If 9" isn't neccessary for appearance,I'd rip and alternate grain at every joint.

Should be. I've put together several tops with biscuits and carpenter's glue. The method of attaching top to base is important. The top needs to be able to expand and contract without getting bound up, which might make it warp. There are different methods for that.

Ok thanks. Yes the top will be attached to a standing desk frame which should allow for expansion and contraction.
