Dining room conversion

We aren't a dining room family. Just the two of us,, the room had not been used in 4 yrs. I started by tearing down some walls between the old family room and this new family room. The old family room will be added to the kitchen area and more of this new family room will also open to the kitchen area, making an open concept. Tune in for updates on the kitchen project. I stripped this room down to the studs, gave it new electrical for can lights, outlets and a built in electric fireplace; new drywall, fireplace surround and shelves. Added box beams made from cedar fence boards added a finishing touch. Now this room is a cozy family room.

You may eat all meals out but what about when you host meals? What about family or friends visiting, they will need somewhere to eat.

We rarely eat out and we have large family gatherings. Our kitchen seating area supports this.

Great job! Looks wonderful and cozy. We never used our formal dining area, so made a sitting room out of it— now it’s room we use and love.

Thanks for sharing, I love before and afters. :)

Wow! I love it. I hope you do too. Can we see what you are doing with the old family room too?

Thank you. I am eager to tackle the kitchen-dining area project. With the warmer weather, my projects migrate to the yard and exterior of the house. Once I complete the new area that is the old family room, I'll be sure to post pics.
