Kousa Blooming in Alternate Years?

This picture was taken in 2019. The tree was so heavily laden with blossoms I was afraid branches might break. Then, last year, the same tree had only three blossom, total. It looks like this year will be good for the number of blossoms. What’s up with that? Care & conditions were similar.
