Looks like my yard. Tree branches are bent down under a load of 1-2 inches of very heavy snow. I covered as much as I could yesterday but I didn't have enough empty pots, cans, etc. to cover all the pips that are up. We are expecting more snow and colder temperatures (in the 20's) tonight. At my office, just 3-4 miles north there's just a dusting of snow on the grass and the trees are fine.

Oh noes! I hope all your beautiful plants survive this.

the sun is out..there's clumps of snow falling from my big trees..the Japanese maple by the dining room and kitchen looks better..tonight scares me more than last night..cold again and the plants might not have any snow cover..

Beautiful gardens are a lot of work. It's painful and worrisome to see what mother nature has in store for us. I see your Fire Island's trying to cope with the weather change.

Our temperatures went down to 30F last night. Tonight it will go down to about 26F. I covered a few things last night and will go out to do more covering this afternoon. And then we wait and see what damage has occurred. Our plants are tougher than we give them credit for. But still---after all the work, it sucks.

This spring I left the chopped leaves (I covered a majority of my garden with) even when the weather had become nice. As someone said, "it's a trick" and frost will soon be coming. How true. I think the leaves helped keep the soil from warming up and the plants emerging too much. I had started taking away some of the leaves, but then yesterday I went around and threw them back onto the garden on some of my plants (like heuchera) that were out more.

newhostalady..if we didn't own many plants we could spare ourself some grief..but who wants to live without plants?..not me..I believe in nature's ways..the longer I live here the messier it looks! Lol..

Glad it's looking better nicholsworth, hope they all make it through tonight. I didn't get much snow here in SW Michigan but some pretty low temps and again tonight. I have as many covered with pots and sheets that I could manage. Plus I put all the pots in the garage, lots of work but such is the life of a gardener I guess,

the weather is chaotic..in less than a week (next Tues) it's supposed to be 80..

Esther..it'll take time to know if my plants are damaged..I'm sure there will be some damage..it was scary to see my Japanese maples weighed down..good luck with your efforts to cover your plants..doesn't it seem like all of us are dealing with freezes?..

This morning it was 34 at home but the temperature is rising with blue skies and lots of sunshine. There was frost on the car this morning and the sidewalks glistened with frost. I will probably wait until tomorrow to take off the pots, etc. Of course next week it will be near 80 here. Esther, I agree it's a lot of work to keep the plants protected. I only hope that I didn't crush them when I hurriedly put pots over them on Monday.

NW, had pretty much the same thing here. It looks as though everything in my gardens still looks good, no noticeable frost damage yet. Let’s hope this was a nonevent for us.

Sherry..I hope you're right..I was in shock on Wednesday morning..it's hard to believe that I could come out of this freaky snowstorm without serious damage..but it's possible!..

Well, I sincerely hope that our plants will not show damage from this sudden frost. We supposedly had a super brief rainshower this morning. As I gazed at the Accuweather Minutecast, telling me it was raining, I glanced out my balcony window at absolutely no sign of rain. Typical for Accuweather. My only solace was that they were calling for rain, not snow. It's going to be cold today, too, so I will leave my bubble wrap in place and leave the tender annuals in the garden shed and Rubbermaid tote until tomorrow.

After two nights of freezing temps, I am afraid to go out and uncover anything.....tonight they say 34 and Saturday 39. So maybe tomorrow I can uncover mine. Next week the lows are predicted in the 40s so that should be ok. Right??????

40's sound ok, it's what I am hoping for. I can only run around the yard and cover stuff so many times and then I am done. We can have frosts here in early May so my fingers are crossed that this is our last cold spell, but you never know.

Esther..I agree that it's still too chilly for your annuals..better safe than sorry..

I only covered a few things before we got the snow two nights ago. Everything still looked fine as we barely got below 32 degrees. Last night was much colder without any snow and I ended up covering a lot of stuff and moved all my pots into the shed. I couldn't cover everything. 27.8F was the coldest it got outside and my shed dropped to 31.8 briefly. I had to uncover stuff today as the sun was out and it was approaching 70 degrees under the frost cover before 11:00 AM. The frost covers in the shade I left in place. I noticed some frost damage among the uncovered ones, but not all of them (yet, fingers crossed). Also, looked to be some frost damage among only a few of the covered ones. Its so hard to get them covered right, but I'm doing better. Going to cover stuff up again tonight as stuff is mostly in place. Its supposed to drop to 29 degrees tonight so almost as cold as last night, grrr. After this, I'm done.

steve..our last 2 nights were 28 with snow and 34..tonight's forecast 37..

I see a little damage..not surprising since they were uncovered..my NOID (tagged Striptease) before the snow..then after the snow and a leaf close up..overall shape is a little smashed..some leaves have rips where I think the snow folded them over..

I hope your efforts pay off..and you have little to no damage..
