Kitchen Layout help! DW/Trash placement and Pantry cabinets!

So we are going to be finalizing things this week. Here is the preliminary design we worked on. My issues are this:

Dishwasher and Pull out trash placement?-She has dishwasher on right of sink and trash in island. Another designer said you want dishwasher on one side and trash on the other side of the sink. I'm thinking the island would work better for me because I do alot of chopping and prep and am constantly needing to throw scraps away. Thoughts?

Also the pantry cabinets by the fridge. She has two 24 inch tall cabinets but I'm just not thinking that's enough space for a pantry for our family. I would really like a spot for appliances as well (Instant pot, crock pot etc.) is one 30 inch pantry cabinet and one 15 inch pantry cabinet sufficient for that? Or should I go one 36 inch pantry cabinet and then hide the appliances elsewhere?

We are also changing the range wall to make the drawers on either side symmetrical 3 drawer pull outs on each side.

I'd swap the d/w and trash placement so that the d/w isn't in the middle of your prep zone (or if you're going to have the trash on the island, still move the dishwasher out of the corner to the other side of the sink). I understand what you're saying about prepping on the island. When I had a kitchen with a similar layout, I found I was mostly prepping on the island, but would frequently find myself prepping on the space between the stove and sink. The trash being next to the sink would also help with scraping dishes after meals so I would choose to have it there v. on the island.

I agree the trash should be as close to the sink as possible. I would also seriously consider a cabinet-depth refrigerator (24") to keep the run of cabinets on the sink side cleaner-looking. If cost is an issue, then I'd swap the tall cabinets with the fridge so the fridge is on the end of the run. That way the cabinets don't bump out in the middle of the work area. I'd also think about shifting the island toward the dining area a bit so you have 48" between the range and the island. You have the room, so the walkway doesn't have to be that tight.

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors thank you!!! We actually do have a counter depth fridge so I'm not sure why she doesn't have that showing. Ok so I think we will stick to the dishwasher on R of sink and trash on L. That's a great idea about the island shifting down more. I will absolutely do that!

@T Go TX so my original thought was dishwasher on left of sink and trash on right of sink. But then I worried the trash would be in the corner away from everything. Say i'm cleaning out the fridge, now the trash is on the other end. But you bring up a great point about the dishewasher being in the middle of your cooking zone if it's on the right of the sink. Hmmmm dammit theres so much to think of!

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors I just spoke with the cabinet person and she said that if we make the fridge flush and not stick out then the countertop edge will stick out farther than the fridge edge. It won't run flush into the side of the fridge? Do you have thoughts on this? Thank you!

What is the actual depth of your refrigerator? Some manufacturer's call them "counter depth" but what I'm referring to is actually "built in", i.e. 24" deep. Usually, base cabinets are 24" deep with countertop edge of 1.5" or 25.5" total. So, if the refrigerator cabinet is the same depth as the adjacent base cabinets, the counters shouldn't be a problem. If your refrigerator is deeper than 24", then the cabinet person is correct.

If you haven't yet purchased your refrigerator, think about what depth you want.

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors the fridge is 26 7/8 without handles BOOOO! Well I guess it'll be sticking out. Ah well. Thank you so much for your help!
