I've heard great things about it in hot zones from HMF roses. Looks beautiful!

Thanks des for the picture. Its a beautiful rose. Ah!! How shy is the rebloom on this? Is this a climber? I didnt realise.

How does it compare with Guinee? I've been wanting both of these roses, but am a bit worried about the flowers frying in my hot and sunny climate...

HMF says Senegal has "occasional repeat" so it's interesting that jdesseintes reports 2-3 flushes per year. It must like the SoCal climate.

I can't wait to get Guinee, I have her on order from Freedom Gardens.

Since its a climber and I have already purchased more climbers than i have space for, is there an alternate similar shrub rose in color that repeats fairly decently? :(

bart bart: I'm not sure on Guinee, from the photos on HMF it seems similar to Senegal minus the climbing habit, I'll keep an eye out.

slumgullion: Yes, the specimen I'm observing is at the Huntigton Botanical Gardens in Pasadena, California. These past years it has expanded incredibly with vigorous canes. Only one year I observed a third flush, otherwise just two, the latter being less prolific than the first.

Rose Beginner: I've been emailing RVR about this rose but it's been unavailable for the past two years. I think I read somewhere that it can be grown also as a non-climber. There aren't many roses that compare to Senegal because of its unique flower shape / color / scent. The closest I've seen would be Francis Dubreuil / Barcelona.

If any of you here is able to find Senegal available please give me a shout, so far I haven't been able to find it. Thanks!

jdesseintes, you might contact Freedom Gardens http://www.combinedroselist.com/freedom-gardens.html and see if they can custom propagate Senegal for you. I don't see it listed on their website but they have many more varieties than what is listed.

Or maybe Huntington has rose sales sometimes? Or would they let you take a cutting?

Burlington Rose Nursery in Visalia has Senegal available as of Jan 2023. I am looking forward to growing this rose.
