Please help with laundry room design dilemma...

We decided it was time to get a new washer and dryer so we thought perfect time to update our laundry closet, already put in new tile flooring, cabinets and we want add a countertop. Our last design had storage below the old washer and dryer, so getting rid of that so we can have countertop space.
After the washer and dryer was already purchased and past the return date we discovered the soap dispenser is on top while our previous washer had a tray that pulled out from the front. The dryer had alittle tray storage on top that's not important for us lose access if needed.
So the problem is we wanted to put a nice heavy wood kitchen block countertop on it but now we don't have access to the dispenser. Ideas that we have discussed: have a pump to send soap to the compartment, cut a few holes with and access top cover or something, or cutting a rectangular section of thick wood block and putting a hinge but I'm concerned about the eyesores or functionality issue that any of this will create.
Looking for ideas and suggestions or reassurance. Thanks so much!

So what will the countertop be used for? Will you actually stand there and fold? I find the height of the w/d too high for me to comfortably fold at. I prefer the height of a kitchen table.

Regardless, I like the option of the hinged piece to allow access.

That was the idea to stand and fold there. Tired of using my kitchen table for folding LOL. But your right the height may not be ideal. And we had talked about that too.

I think hinge idea is what we are going to go with. We thought about a table rise kinda like you see with some coffee tables at furniture stores but the hardware is difficult to find exactly what we would need and may be very costly. Thanks for your input and time.

A countertop will be a bit awkard to put on top of the washer/dryer because of the access utility hatch. The countertop will need to be spaced out from the wall and you will keep loosing socks through that opening...haha those darn socks...You don't actually need a countertop you can just fold over top of the washer/dryer. What will fall will be easier to fish

Yeah we are certain to do a countertop. It may not be as useful as I thought. But we went forward and purchased the countertop and cut it to size and will are doing the access panel. Hopefully we won't have any regrets. But at least we'll have a place to hold a basket or soap if needed. Thanks everyone for your time and input. It was much appreciated!
