renovation layout help

We need help choosing between 2 layout options. Our architect suggests #1, our interior designer (who is also a trained architect) #2.

1) bigger bedroom/den on main (9'9" by 10'9") and 6' spacing between cabinets in the galley-like portion of the kitchen, or

2) 7' spacing between cabinets and smaller bedroom/den (8'9" by 10'9") on main.

The house is just under 3000 sq ft, 2 floors and a basement. We have 3 bedrooms and 2 full bath up, 1 full bath down with a rec room.

This room will be used as a den/music room. It will contain: keyboard, several guitars and amps, pedal steel (about half the size of a keyboard), violin, music stand, desk with computer/speakers. It also will have our minimal home office equipment (printer, some desk space). We will use it, but are also concerned about the space between the fridge and cooktop being too tight, and it being a pinch point with the location of the back door/mudroom. Also not sure if given what we are putting in there, if a space will matter (not trying to get a queen size bed in it, things will mostly be along walls.

this layout is the result of months of work, we won't be changing other things in a major way.

Thanks!!
