You don’t want to use Ikea if you want to not use their standard sizes.

What reason for insisting on that layout? What's driving those measurements? We used 5-5-10-10 for a very pleasant look.

I don't see why not- The cabinet insides are drilled for every 1" on the inside

They are not on 1" increments because they are European- they are on 1cm increments (the holes are 2cm apart and the drawer slide allows another 1 cm adjustment)

That said if you are installing the fronts and the fronts are not pre drilled yes you can do the math to create the correct mounting locations. Sounds like a PITA but if you have furniture building experience, tools, and a penchant for math you should not have any problems

@sushipup1 - I just like the look. Based on all the kitchens designs that have caught my eye, they all have thus look on both sides of the stove with the bottom drawers being equal in size.

You need a different cabinet line.

My answer is yes. We do it everyday. We make custom doors for IKEA systems and never follow the 5-10-15 layout. You size the interior drawers closest to the drawer front size and if you know what you’re doing it all works fine. To me the whole purpose of this concept is to have it not look like IKEA but use their internal components to keep the cost down.

Here‘s an example using IKEA and changing the drawer sizes. Those who say it can’t be done probably don’t work with this everyday like we do and most likely never have.

It's actually quite easy. It just requires some good measuring. If you're ordering custom fronts, you might want to request they don't pre-drill the fronts for you and do that on site once you've put in the drawers so you can get the holes in exactly the right place.

For the 6" drawer, you'd want the low 3" Maximera and you'd have to drill four holes to attach the front. For the 12", I'd get the high drawer, which is around 8" high. That one requires 8 holes.

I don't know if you're planning to install them yourself or have someone else do them. If you're doing it yourself, I'd recommend buying one of the high Utrusta fronts so you can see the size and spacing of the holes you'll need.

ETA: Sorry I misspoke on the number of holes. I was thinking of Akurum, not Sektion. Akurum required 4+2. Sektion is 4+4. I've corrected that above.

Ikea is great for flexibility and cost so dont be discuraged by comments coming from ppl who have never done Ikea... We do different combinations all the time even though we stick to 5, 10 or 15. Most recently we did 5/5/5/15 as this client had LOTS of cutlery sets lol. In my experience though the 15" drawer is super super useful, you need at least one in the kitchen. The reason why ikea does 5/10/15 is for variety, as all depths are used for something else; they arrived at this combo after years of studying how ppl use their kitchens...Just FYI usually 5 is used for cutlery(you can fit even a double layer in a 5". 6" would be wasting 1" basically. 10" is great for plates and 15" for any combination of pots:) The Sektion holes are 3 cm apart so not sure how it would work for 6/12/12. Of course you can always make new holes...But basically I would not base my decision solely on esthetics on this one...I cant believe I said that lol

Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, the industry standard is 6” for a short drawer and 12” for a tall drawer. Exactly what the OP wants. From almost everyone. And there are refrigerator cabinets that fit over a standard sized 72” H fridge alcove with a 7’ or 8’ set of cabinets too.

Ikea is a great option. For those that want actual Ikea. When you don’t really want Ikea, and try to force fit it, it’s a problem. Our cabinet shop was asked to build doors for Ikea once. We looked into it, and found that we could build all new similar spec whole cabinets for what some of the ikea door sellers were charging, just for doors. But that just isn’t our market. Way too many negatives and not enough positives.

You can do anything you want with ikea. I have heavily modified my ikea kitchen with push-to-open handleless drawers and aluminum pull rails embedded in the front of the cabinet runs and custom fronts. It's all possible. Just depends how much drilling you want to do.

You can solve your problem by relocation of the runners - it's relatively easy if you're capable of drilling three holes in a straight line with a 5mm drill bit ...
