Good morning plant people. I am new to the world of house plants and gardening. Brand new infact. I only had one plant for a the last year. An easy low maintenance spider plant. Well...I decided to repot it and I thought I had thoroughly researched what I was about to do on YouTube. But when I pulled the plant out of the container it was so rootbound (is that the right term?) it just had thick white roots curling around and around and around spiralling down the pot. I panicked. I wasn’t expecting it to look like that so I did a quick google search and should have used my better judgement but somebody on some forum said I should untangle the roots with a chopstick so the roots don’t strange the plant and kill it.

So that’s what I did. My mother told me it’s going to have root shock. Or something.... I will post a before pic. and 1 from when I had unravelled the roots and smacked the loose soil away. I then ended up reporting three times because the first time it was way too low in the pot. The second time it was too high. And the third time I think I got it.

Anyway any advice would be so much appreciated. I know it seems like a stupid question but I’m just learning. I needed a hobby. Covid. Life. Etc. I wonder if I should take it out again and give it a hair cut and then replant it back in the small planter..? Or just leave it?

Thank you and to all of you gardening slash house plant enthusiasts out there. Mad respect. This is hard work, it’s messy, and it requires so much patience. I thought I would have a jungle theme in a few weeks I never stopped to think....plants take time to grow. Lots of time. But I love it!

Oh I should also mention...I did water it a few hours after it was in the second pot. It took a lot of water and the soil at the top is still fluffy. I don’t think I have enough drainage holes in that pot. I drilled them. Ugh.
