Help! Missing piece of roof!

We are redoing the deck on the house and realize that something needs to be done in this corner. It looks like the builder, for whatever reason, didn't finish the planned covered porch or pergola. We do not have the plans so have no idea what this notch out of the roof implies. Any idea?

Is this the back or the front of your house?

Can you post a picture of the front?

Have you gone to town hall? Often plans are recorded there.

Yes this is the back, it's in the country so it's not a compliance issue, and doesn't need permits. You can not see this area from the front either.

We are looking at a pitched roof shade, like a half octagon, and then a flat pergola to finish off the deck part. I hope it works out.
