We need a ton more info to start what was included in your contract that you both signed off on ? There is always a back story to these dilemmas in my experience so more info from you will get more help from us.

Everything is more expensive for everyone. Of course you’re coming in over budget. Lumber is up 300%, cabinets 15%, stone 10%, tile 10%, etc. And that was before the ship got stuck in the canal and backed up all the Asian imports that this country can’t live without.

I always advise never NEVAH hire friends, relatives or neighbors to do renovation work. This should be emblazoned somewhere so every single person on earth who is contemplating a renovation can see it. It always turns out badly. I agree with the above post that costs have skyrocketed and you will just have to ante up for materials the way the rest of the country is. But pointing that out does not address the debris/dumpster issue, nor the ordering the wrong door twice, nor the amount of time that has elapsed.

At this point, look at the contract you signed and see what it says. Also, how much have you so far paid the contractor that you said you have not heard from? Once payment is due, you will hear from him. Perhaps stop work at this point, before you get in deeper, and send an email to the contractor that you need to go over the issues with the project before continuing further. But be prepared that he may ghost you - depending on how much money you've given him so far.

There is so much revonation going on, it sounds like he overextended himself, thus assigning a junior manager. I assume because he was recommended by neighbours, they thought highly of him and think that personal referrals are important to him, so he may want to resolve.

I‘d ask he make his way over asap and sit down to discuss your list, expectations, commitments, issues, etc.

A mis-ordered door and a debris pile don't seem like contract-ending type issues to me. Yes, he may be giving you lower priority because you're not living in the home. Time for a civil meeting.
