I have TahMahal countertops & island and love it! I have white cabinets and all SS appliances, a more industrial look. I went with a plain white subway tile 2x6. i do not think it’s overused at all. I think it’s classic, pleasing to the eye, and will complement your beautiful cabinets, detailed hood/stone surround, and that gorgeous Taj Majal. Just my opinion. Good luck with the choice!

It’s hard to tell by the picture what the finish looks like for the 2x8 and how much texture it has to it. I think I like the finish/texture on the 2x12 better but think the 2x8 size will look better. its tough to make these calls! :)

Bottom line, i think a classic medium gloss flat subway tile (with minimum to no texture) would be the best complement to your kitchen. (classic length, too - to me a 12 in time is more modern)

There are a lot of decorative details in your kitchen. For a backsplash, I would use simple small-to-medium subway tile which matches one quiet predominant color in your counter material.

What are the colors of the tiles? In their close ups, they don't look like a good match to the counters.

If you hate subway tiles, you can choose the right white/cream tile in a picket fence shape, an octagon or just place subway tiles in an interesting pattern. Please don’t use mother of pearl. It doesn’t go with the room and is total overkill. Your backsplash needs to be “quiet”.

@Skippack Tile & Stone The 2x8 is Mallorca white and the 3x12 is Flash Ivory. Do you have a recommendation on what would look good with Taj Mahal and white countertops?

Here’s mine... they are white. if you like it I can get you details just don’t remember the “color” of white.

I would select something that's closer to the counter color tones.

Not what you asked about, but I am seeing a dangerous fire hazard, so I must mention it for your and family's safety. That wood shelf and corbels are combustible materials over a gas cooktop at a low height. That is really dangerous. It will need to be removed. If you want a shelf there, put a stainless steel shelf.

Instead of tile, how about a nice plain white solid surface (such as Corian) for the backsplash, interior of stove area?
