I would need to see much better drawings of the whole house as it sits on the property . I do not understand this placement of a front door which BTW is too small for such a large expanse of windowless wall. Did an architect actually design this ? If so they need to quit their day job this is one very unattractive front entry and I see no oversized windows so you bwtter show those .

This is the front of the house where most of the windows are. The largest ones are 4x6 feet. The smallest is 3x5 feet. The two you see in the original picture are 3x5 casements (the largest available size), and they belong to the guest bedroom. My question is about the porch and exterior entry experience only. We have the interior entryway figured out.

We bought this house plan but then revised it significantly on the entry side of the house to accommodate some large, mature white oak trees on our property and to enlargen the great room.

The porch question can't be answered without seeing the whole side of the house. Your photo and your drawing aren't the same at all. The porch needs to relate to the doorway but also the whole house. Do you not have an architectural drawing of the home the way you have it? Did you eliminate the windows to the right of the door? All the windows seem different from your drawing. Your porch drawing with the double door is completely undersized. Post a photo and drawings of the home as it will be.

I think there is confusion because you posted a drawing of the front elevation of house, yet this porch question is regarding the side elevation. You have also revised the linked floor plans to what was built, yet we are not aware of what those changes consisted of.

1st, when you say "porch," does that include a roof, any wing walls, posts, a solid concrete base, or "lightly built" wood deck/stairs? It appears the front "porch" is just a simple set of stairs that does not contribute to the house's design value, is that all you are looking to emulate?

2nd, what does the surrounding area look like? Where do people travel from, a driveway, a meandering path, a detached garage? What are the slopes and trees in the way? Is there a connection to, or a need for, outdoor living?

3rd, does the Guest Room need a separate porch? Meaning, could it wrap around to the front porch to use those stairs? Is the door strictly used within the Guest bedroom, or accessed by others, say from a kitchen?

4th, 5th, 6th, . . . you can see there is a lot of information required to do more than stick a set of stairs on there.

BTW it sure looks like the rough-in for the door is for a much taller one than what was installed.
