Everpure EF-6000

I am considering to install EF-6000 water filter for the cold kind in my main (and only one) kitchen faucet. My main concern is for it NOT to slow down the water flow. Please share the knowledge and experience. I would like to avoid having an extra faucet for cold and instant hot water (limitations with matches in faucet finishes), so would like to have this Everpure fir the main faucet (cold) and separate little faucet for instant hot.     A kitchen sink faucet is typically 2 gallons per minute. That filter is rated for 0.5 gallons per minute. It would not accomplish what you want. (Note: See later correction on this)

    A 4.5" x 10" carbon filter - in general - will have a 2 gpm operating flow rate and 3 gpm max flow rate. A 4.5" x 20" will typically have a 3-4 gpm operating flow rate. These are "general" numbers to get you in the right ballpark. Take a look at the filter then to know what it's rated. You aren't going to get 2 gpm on a small filter.

    I use a Pentek Big Blue filter holder (20") and KDF55/carbon filter for my kitchen cold water / ice-maker. It's rated at 3 gpm operating flow rate. With the standard filter holder, I can then select from a variety of filter types and brands. I have no issues with restricted flow rates on my sink - would never know there was a filter on it (other than the water tastes good and doesn't smell like chlorine).

    A 10" Big Blue filter housing will fit under a sink, a 20" would probably be a stretch. I have mine in my basement with a separate water line to the kitchen sink.

    A standard carbon filter shouldn't go past about 1 year because of potential bacteria build-up. The KDF-55 claims to provide down-stream bacteriostatic effect for the carbon and so I replace it after 2 years.

    Specifications:

    Flow rate: controlled at 2.2 gpm (8.3 Lpm)
    Temperature: 35-100° F (2-38° C) cold water use only
    Pressure: 10-125 psi (0.7-8.6 bar) non-shock
    Capacity: 6,000 gal. (22,713 L)

    It says 2.2 gpm, isn’t this going to give me a normal flow?

    Hi @Lana Shulman,

    I stand corrected: The sites I checked showed it at 0.5 gpm flow rate.

    Pulling the data sheet shows it was tested at 1.67 gpm and is rate controlled at 2.2 gpm.

    The filter is 5x22" so that's about right size-wise.


    I like that it's actually tested and certified for NSF 42 and 53. I like that it has a metal canister and shutoff. This looks like a great unit.

    I would say go for it.

    @Jake The Wonderdog how would this compare with an RO filter? Would it make sense to use with a whole house water softener?

    This is going to remove less contaminates than an RO filter. That said, an RO filter is going to produce far less filtered water, and waste more water doing it. RO will also be more maintenance and cost over time.

    Most people don't need RO water. They just don't. And if you don't maintain any filter, it's worse than not having it.

    Many people, myself included, use unsoftened water for drinking. My cold water in the kitchen goes through a carbon / KDF filter and will flow at 2 gpm. It also goes to the ice maker.
