Evening Light in the Garden

I captured these images the other day and thought to share. I like to plant light colored blooming plants where I drive in and where I park the car and walk in the house in the evening. The white and light colors really pop and I can see them better in the dark or early evening light. The long vistas are probably why I tend to shovel prune perfectly good red roses--they just don't have enough contrast and fade in the backgound. Does anyone else do this?

    Diane I'm not in Kentucky but in an area of Middle Tennessee with quite a few small horse farms--including my own. I usally have 4-6 horses of various ages and training levels at any given time.

    The white climber in the first photo is Honeymoon with a non-vining clematis from Brushwood whose name escapes me. Honeymoon is in its third year and this was the first really good show--before the thrips showed up!


    And yes, Husker's Red is the penstimon. It volunteers here for me so I end up using it all over. I keep telling myself that the volunteer penstemon, cone flower and geranium that I've dispersed all through the gardens now are about anchoring them with repetition, but the real truth might be that I'm kind of cheap and I always think "free plants!"


    The peach rose is Peach Drift (or Apricot I can never remember.) Then the other white rose is one I don't hear more about but probably should: Swany. Swany is disease free under heavy pressure, a generous bloomer that has a drappy habit. It would be fabulous spilling over a rock wall or on an incline.
