Do you prefer a front-load or top-load washer? Speed Queen and LG make the most reliable washers.

For front load Miele makes the most reliable laundry. This has been true for over 50 years. Miele invented front load the automatic washing machine. Theybare the ONLY company to make all of their components from steel (they have their own forge) to pc boards (they have their own robotic manufacturing facility).

Everything is made in Europe with most in Germany. No chinese or low quality asian components.

Speed Queen and Miele would be the most reliable residential brands. Speed Queen is top load only right now. Miele is fromt load only with many more features compared to Speed Queen.

Your budget will determine how reliable you can afford. Find a good dealer who services what they sell. If your dealer doesnt service the you need to know if there is a service department that will come to your house. for Miele it is important to have a knowledgable technican,

Miele may make reliable laundry but it's debatable that they still make the most reliable machines. And from what I understand, Miele did not invent the automatic washing machine; I believe Bendix invented it.

I agree Miele makes a good product with most parts being made in house but I've heard they are beginning to use more third party parts. A Miele product of today is not as well built or reliable as previous generations.

Miele has a limited service network in the USA so if you consider them, check with Miele USA to see if Miele factory service is available in your area.

And Speed Queen does make a very highly rated front load washer that is pretty much the exact model you'd find at a laundromat. The Speed Queen front load washer comes with a five year warranty vs. only a one year waranty for Miele.

Bendix put the first automatic washer (frontloading) on the U.S. market in 1937. There were washing machines before that date but they were manual/wringer machines, not automatics.

Non-US markets may be different.

Miele still makes their parts in-house. They have not recently started using more third party parts. They just expanded their own plastics manufacturing plant to increase their in-house capacity. They want good quality, reliable parts so they make them in house. That shows not only a commitment to quality, but also a commitment to parts availability.

They guarantee parts availability for residential appliances for 10 years after the END of production for a specifc model. Residential laundry is designed for 10K operating hours or 20 years of service with a couple loads per week.

I have a large family (13 at home) and have owned W1/T1 set. The washer is approaching 7k operating hours with no problems. There are ZERO other manufacturers who will even state a design life beyond a nebulous number of years. That means nothing without knowing how much the washer is being used.

Speed Queen does NOT currently offer front load equipment to residential customers. They have not for several years citing demand from commerical customers. None of their washers have onboard heaters so a true hot/sanitize wash is not available if that is inportant to a customer.

Actually LG front loaders are considered some of the best in when reliability and effectiveness are studied (not so with their top loaders). They receive some of the highest ratings for front loading machines, but many Americans have a bias against Asian companies with respect to quality for some reason (as if all Asian manufacturers are somehow the same?).

Definitely go for a front loading washing machine: more efficient, better clean, gentler on clothes, and you'll save money on water and electricity bills.

The part about Speed Queen washers not having onboard water heaters is correct (they did several years ago), but SQ does now have frontloaders available.

They are now touting a Sanitize cycle "with Oxi" and tap-hot water on the frontloader models (one stainless steel exterior, one white w/left-swing door, one white w/right-swing door). The wash period is 60 minutes, soak and prewash options are available.

Ahhh if Miele had at least a 3.2 Cubic Ft washer and 5 Cubic Ft for a dryer this thread would be so different. NO LG, NO Samsung, NO KIA, NO Hyundai...Just say no.

If Speed Queen had a heater I would have purchased one. The eye trick is a joke.

I double checked at inspection last night......we will need an electric dryer in the new house. Available footprint for two appliances is approximately 4'10" wide by 3' deep.

I love my LG. washer and dryer, no issues! I have had them for about 5 years. I liked LG so much I purchased a LG dishwasher, LG TV, and LG portable air conditioner. They all work great, no issues. I also think my LG washer and dryer are attractive appliances❣️
