Thank you! Do you know if Mitsubishi Hyperheat needs auxiliary heat? Also, I read somewhere that to preserve a heat pump, when it shuts off due to inability to get heat from cold outside air, there should be some heat source other than the heat pump.

Luckily, many newer heat pumps have improved in their ability to handle cold weather.

To get technical, a cold-climate ductless heat pump meets these minimum specifications:

The compressor must be variable capacity.

Indoor and outdoor units must be part of an AHRI match system.

A Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) greater than or equal to 10.0.

We have ductwork so will be getting a ducted system with compressor outside and air handler in our attic. I couldn’t find any info online about any other brands besides Mitsubishi that can handle heating lower than 35-40 efficiently. Please let me know which others can. Thanks!
