Provia Endure windows versus other brands

Anyone have experience with Provia Endure windows? We are looking to replace a bunch of windows and are wondering how they compare to Renewal by Andersen and Pella. Other suggestions for companies? Thanks!

Decent. They are new at making windows and there are a bunch of more proven vinyl products on the market.

@Windows on Washington Ltd- What windows do you recommend?

Provia "endure" is a pretty good window. Other very well regarded brands are Okna Windows, Soft Lite, Sunrise Vandguard or Sunrise Restorations.

@Windows on Washington Ltd and @Window Genius- What about the Provia windows is subpar? Or is it just that they haven't been around long enough?

I didn't say "subpar". I said they are decent and with regards to the comparison of all vinyl windows, they are above the median to be certain. They will have better performance data than RBA and I definitely wouldn't use the other brand you have listed in your first post. That all said, the brands that Window Genius mentions have been making superior products for a long time. If you are fine with a vinyl window, there are better options.

Fine, middle of the road window IMO. You could do better, you could do worse. Provia makes great doors but I wouldn't put their windows at that level. Its the type of product that you would expect for a "first entry" into a space. Shares an extrusion/design with several other manufacturers, a good way to try out a new product category. Very "modular", much like doors, not so much like some of the upper tier window manufacturers. Kinda like buying the tube of cookies that you throw on the baking sheet vs making from scratch.

Personally I'd be surprised if they are still selling the same window 10 years from now, either they will have developed their own great window befitting the reputation that they have building doors, or maybe they decide to stick to doors... The former is probably more likely than the latter, but who knows.

I think the window is very competive in the market in which it competes. At the rate the window market moves i’d be surprised that it is not available in 10 years . As it stands it is an upper mid level window or lower high end window depending on opinion. Windows are not like cars that see 5 year old complete design changes , a twenty old design in windows can be highly competive or even be cutting edge

Personally, I like the Provia Aspect better than the Endure. The Aspect uses the same exact main frame as the Endure but with a more narrow sash frame. Its a nicer window and has the same exact performance numbers and features as the Endure.

The Endure has more options such as colors but if you are getting all white, the Aspect is the way to go.

@Window Genius and @Windows on Washington Ltd- What are the differentiating factors between the various vinyl windows? In other words, what makes one window better than another? What will another company have that the Provia Endure will not?

  • PRO

The data points that are typically used as differentiators are:

    • Thermal Performance - i.e. U-Factor, less than 0.26 in a double pane (without a surface 4 coating) is good here
    • Air Leakage - i.e. Air infiltration, less than 0.05 on a double hung is good here
    • Structural strength - Performance Grade (DP), higher than a DP-45 in a double hung is good here

What about the price? Anyone have an estimate that they would like to share?

Anyone have a price range on Endure windows?

    last modified: 4 years ago

No one will comment on price because there are far too many variables. The guy who works out of his garage that was a short order cook who was fired and now decides to do some construction work will obviously be cheap. If you like the window and you like the company performing the install, you have a good price.

Of course if someone is irresponsible enough to somehow purchase the windows themselves and have ” the family friend” do the install, I guess they beat the system for a few months until the family friend becomes the family enemy. How many times has that happened????

    $600-$1000.

Wait another 3 weeks and that range will move up 15%.

If that window is offered from a larger company, with woodgrain interior, triple pane glass, grids, exterior color coating, full tear out installation with new interior wood work (prefinished), etc, it will be considerably more than $1000... And I don't say that to argue with Todd, but just to illustrate that offering a range is awfully hard. Basic white, simple install may be in that $600 range from smaller company, where that Cadillac window package and comprehensive install may be north of $1500 from a little bit larger company. This is especially tricky with this window given that its sold through many distributors, so there is an huge range of dealer/installer "types" offering it.

@toddinmn, I don't disagree with that general sentiment, my reasoning for thinking that its life will be an exception to that on the shorter side has more to do with the fact that Provia seems to be a company that prefers to offer excellence as opposed to "upper mid level". I suppose that they could come out with some great new window and keep this one as a drop given that its someone else's window anyway... that or maybe get out of the window game if they can't master it. Its all completely speculation regardless. I suppose we can revisit this thread in 10 years.

Do not use Renewal by Anderson, go to a local installer of Anderson. I'm my neighborhood, that saves about half vs the ridiculous Renewal markup - $22k vs $42k for the same design of house.

You cannot buy Andersen Renewal at a store, they are totally different than regular andersen.

If you have wood, never EVER replace-pay to restore and maintain. Wood windows need maintenence, yes, but that is because they CAN be maintained. Current manufactured windows cannot BE maintained and have to be routinely replaced and dumped at landfill. Restored and maintained wood actually does not NEED to be replaced, is EXTREMELY valuable, and last hundreds upon hundreds of years because they CAN be repaired and restored. Wood window restoration (that has been maintained) occurs at 50 year intervals, so by the time your wood needs restoring again, you will have had to replace a replacement window at least ONCE. DON'T DO IT!!!

@A Berryman We have wood windows in our 60 year old split with storms. They leak air between the sashes, tough to open/close and the jambs leak air as well. No water issues whatsoever. They are beautiful but I really want to be able to open and close the windows for the fresh air. We've had no luck finding anyone to fix them. How would you go about finding someone? We are currently looking to replace them.

New windows can be repaired and serviced. Even though old windows are still servicable they often need maintenance before the 50 years.

If you want to keep your windows I would probaly convert them to a more mordern jambliner system and replace the storms. Restoratoon is all about the details and it often cost as much to do this vs replacement.

ProVia is the only way to go-do NOT waste your time on other products! I designed myself a ProVia Legacy Steel door and I did a lot of research, got estimates, and don't like the cruddy warranties on other doors. I don't like the cruddy materials. I don't like paying over $2,000 for a door with all kinds of really shoddy warrantees, with all kinds of loopholes like different parts of the door having different warranties. I don't like paying for a $1,000 install either. You end up paying almost the same price as a ProVia, on a door that will start having problems after just two years, and look horrible within a decade. I am so happy with my door! I highly recommend working with the ProVia company! You cannot GET a better product!

Huh?? ashley you said that nobody should ever replace their wood windows, now you are saying they should but provia? You also said that you dont want to pay a lot, etc, but then said that people should buy quality products like provia? Then on top of it, you seem to be recommending provia windows based on provia doors which is a mistake, not to mention that the Legacy is their bargain basement 24 gauge door. Holy contradictions, im not even sure what you are trying to say here?

    Ashley Berryman

This is what you just said a few days ago and now you are telling the OP to replace her windows with Provia vinyl and its the only way to go. This is extremely strange, not to mention very hippocritical. You said the exact opposite a few days back. Look at your very bizarre post you made a few days back. Did you happen find a job at a vinyl window manufacturer and you want be the new company cheerleader? See below.

”if you have wood, never EVER replace-pay to restore and maintain. Wood windows need maintenence, yes, but that is because they CAN be maintained. 4 years later on this thread- I am residing and new construction windows on my house. for a bundle deal, the JH siding installer only installs Provia. i wanted fiberglass, so I had Pella come out for quote 13 windows 39x56, a 60” slider, and a 97” slider. quote was 45K for their entry 250 series and 59K for Impervia.

too much for me. so I had the window/siding company quote me for Provia Endure- same size and quantity- 23K for windows and 13K for 2 sliders. Location is East Tennessee.

4 years later on this thread whileninflation continues to rise and companies rob your bank account. I am residing and having new construction windows put on my old ranch house. For a bundle deal, the JH siding installer only installs Provia. I wanted fiberglass, so I had Pella come out for quote 13 windows 39x56, a 60” slider, and a 97” slider. quote was 45K for their entry 250 series and 59K for Impervia.

Too much for me, since I am overspending on JH color collection siding, so I had the window/siding company quote me for Provia Endure- same size and quantity- 23K for windows and 13K for 2 sliders. Location is East Tennessee.

Maybe you need a different "JH siding installer" ? I installed Andersen replacement windows and the same installer did the Hardie Plank siding.

Nothing wrong with Provia windows and doors.

The endure is a decent window just very bulky. I prefer the upper end/ high quality vinyl windows such as the Okna 600, Soft Lite elements, sunrise restoration to name a few.

I do like provia enrty doors though.
