Training Elephant Ears?

I have 3 outdoor elephant ears, each with three leaves, biggest leaves are nearly 2ft in length now, but each plant is maybe 3 ft tall. they are producing new, large leaves quickly and the plant is starting to droop lower and lower.

ive tied each to a 10inch stake with some flexible garden tape (that green stuff). will this disrupt their growth since they grow from the base? is training an elephant even possible?? they seem to reach and stretch as they please
