Typically they are incompatible- the soft close closes slowly so doesn't compress the mechanism that pops the door open when you touch it. If blum has combined these into one item that is the way to go, it will be less heartache than trying a million combinations of hinge and push to open mechanisms.

My parents had push to open cabinets in the 1960's. My friends and I would run through the kitchen tapping every cabinet door open. Drove Mom crazy. I loved the convenience but if you have kids, you may want to reconsider push to open.

And it means every cabinet has finger spots on it constantly, and when you wipe them down it pops open... We had them in our dining room which was fine since the rarely got opened, but they opened every time they got bumped into...

Hand oils ruin cabinet finish? Wow, I’m sort of bummed to hear that after just having my beautiful cabinets installed. Putting aside finish issues if I only did the push to open on less used drawers, has anyone ever used push to open hardware that works with soft close, or as Hallett says, that are just not compatible?

I read a lot of responses on this fourm from people who do not have experince regarding the topic they comment on. Several years back Blum devoloped what they call ”tip-on with blum motion” in english that means touch open with built in soft close. Other companies have scince delovoped their versions. It can be added to most Blum slides if they are not too old. It is the manual version of their servo system which is moterized touch/soft close.

Jdesign-gw.....the current soft-close slides are already insalled, but brand new. i had thought i would use regualr pulls at first. is this piece you are describing something i can add, just for the push to open latch?

Sorry I should have clarify my comment. Blum does have this feature on their higher end slides like ”legrabox and ”movento” undermount which are the ones I always use and most familiar with. i dont think you can get both features on standard tanden undermount. . For those i believe the option is only one or the other.

My mill worker highly insisted I not use push to open on any kitchen cabinets or closets due to the cabinet finish bei g ruined eventually with the oils in your fingers. He recommended hidden pull tabs or inside drawer edge pull finish.
