Can't be sure, but that psyllid damage reminds me of common problem with Syzygium...

I don't know what it is, but I don't think it's a weeping tree. It looks like it's going to die if you don't do something quickly. Sorry to be so negative, but I believe in telling the truth.

If it is the Syzygium - which seems very likely - it is neither Japanese nor weeping. There is some healthy new growth showing so I doubt death is eminent but the top looks like it suffered cold damage. Where are you located?

btw, research psyllid control. A systemic insecticide may be your best approach.

Thanks all.. I compared the leaves to a syzygium next door and they are similar enough that I believe it is most certainly one. Definitely not Japanese or weeping! I didn't think that seemed right. As it is only small I have gone through and killed all of the psyllids by hand. I was told it had been sunburned, which I find strange considering we are in the middle of a Melbourne winter, but now I know what it is is can possibly save it. Thanks for your help

also.. i note the weed free lawn ... is lawn spraying a thing down under??

if so.. can we rule out chem drift???

Ken, first day of winter for us is June 1st, so nearly a month in!

No lawn spraying, I completely neglect that lawn! It is so dense and thick that I have a constant battle to keep it from taking over all of my garden beds.

Thankyou Shaxhome I think you are right. I'm not especially in need of a lilly pilly, I was given this by a neighbour who was moving away. If it's going to be a lot of work I probably won't bother

Looks kinda like a camelia flowerin tree..

Marcus, the leaves do resemble Camellia, but Camellia species have serrated leaves, and the leaves on this plant have smooth edges. The insect damage only occurs on Syzygium, and Eugenia species.
