Thanks for your response and for sharing your experiences. I 100% feel for you and this industry right now. It is an unprecedented time and I completely understand that. Our contract says a start date as “spring/summer” but it also says they should start within 60 days of permit being issued. My fault for not asking them to update that to a better timeframe as spring/summer is such a long timeframe. But even if they don’t hit that (and they clearly didn’t hit the 60 days of permit being issued) what recourse do we have. I’m sure we could get out of the contract but we would have zero luck finding another contractee now to do our job before the end of the year. My problem here is our current contractor is not being honest. A month ago they said they thought end of June was a possibility but they won’t guarantee anything. Today’s update was that there’s still 16 digs in front of us. That means if they are being honest with it in regards to our position they only did 3 digs in a month. They typically do 2-3 a week so something is wrong, why not say they are running into issues and they are doing the best they can? Instead they keeping telling us well you are 7-8 in line of permits they have in house but you keep getting pushed bc permits are still coming in for people who signed before you. Maybe that’s true but it sounds like a “line” to me that they are telling people bc they don’t want to tell us the truth. How do I ask for the truth? I have asked so many times for them to be honest but I keep getting the same lines. Is it reasonable to just say can you guarantee me a dig date in September so I don’t have to stress about a date and they don’t have to waste their time updating me?

@Hailey Robert, sure, your builder is lousy at communicating, but I don't think you understood everything that Mystic Pools explained. They can't guarantee you anything, because all those things that Mystic mentioned are out of the pool builders control. Many things that used to be in stock, or had a 1-3 week lead time, are now months out. Many of the trades and builders are doing the best they can to keep their projects moving.

I am trying to select driveway pavers and it has taken the supplier 6 weeks so far to just try to get me some samples. Supposedly they are on a truck, but he won't know until they show up at his showroom. Pavers that you could get in 3 weeks are now 5-6 months out. The first 2 weeks I called a couple of times, then I realized it was pointless as he had no control either. Now I am just waiting for him to call when he gets the samples.

Relax, you are on their schedule and they will show up when it is your turn and they have the materials to complete the job.

My hairdresser just got quotes for a pool and she is on the schedule for 2 years from now, which was the earliest the company she wanted to use could fit her in ... don't give them any more reasons to dump you or you might be waiting that long too.

Totally understand everything you are saying as well but why isn’t my contractor being honest and telling us they are running into industry standard issues? Seems like a much easier response then the ones they have been giving us.

At this point I understand we aren’t going to be able to get a realistic start or completion date. My concern is since our pool contractor isnt saying the delays are due to any industry wide issues could they just be stalling and why? Is there a chance they don’t even start this year? Is there a chance our contract expires after a certain amount of time and they can renegotiate pricing? What other concerns should I have?
