Please help, dying colesus

I repotted this colesus as soon as I got a pot for it and its been thriving and getting taller for days, but all of a sudden one night it started to get black from the roots, even tho theres holes in the bottom and theres stones in its vase under the soil. I dunno what I did wrong. Pictures in comments

The stones don't aid drainage. Are there holes in the bottom of the pot?

did you properly moisten the media before use.. and then properly water in the plant into its new pot ...

did you let it settle down and get its roots pumping .. before it may have gone in sunshine ...

can we see the whole plant ..

propagate some new cuttings as a fail safe.. extremely easy ...

coleus can get a stem rot which will express by the stem rotting and then collapsing at the soil line. Do what ken said and take cuttings above that line and root them out in water. In short order you can try again.

Are you removing the inner pot to water so excess water doesn't pool in the outer pot? If so, it may have just gotten too thirsty. Coleus will not tolerate dry soil.
