Cost to build a garage

We are looking to build a carport but the estimate for a 20x20 (usable space) carport with a monoslope roof and a 6x12 shed was around $50k.
How much is it these days for a 2 car garage?? This seems excessive

I'm in Central Texas (your area matters :-) ), and we had an 8x10 garden shed built for $8k back in January/February of this year (2 windows; no electrical, no plumbing). Our neighbors next door asked the same company for an estimate for a garden shed, as well, maybe 8x12, and were quoted $20k in May.

So, if you are in my area, I'd say that $50k sounds about right. Unfortunately. :-(

If you don't have specific drawings to look at with an exact scope specified, then bids are just ballpark numbers, with a big cushion on the high side (and another bigger one for these times). Get at least 3 bids to start narrowing in on a true cost.

lol -- We definitely considered Costco when we built our ($8k) shed, but I've been mad at Costco lately, lol. We also really wanted to pay local guys for local work. <3
