We have just purchased a 1997 home that has not been touched since it was built. Looking for help with what to do with these sconces and the wall. Budget does not allow replacing the stair rail at this time. Floors will be white oak and walls will be painted light.

Thoughts on what to replace the sconces with (modern/transitional style), and if we should lower the electrical as these seem quite high (but perhaps not necessary with the right sconce)?

Also, would you put art or a gallery wall there or leave it?
