Since you deleted your previous post I will do a repeat. The other poster suggested darker grays but my suggestion and comment was that lighter colors would make the house appear larger. I also suggested replacing the front steps making a larger landing at the top. In thinking about what I was told a couple of years ago when I was thinking about installing a ramp the existing landing would not pass code in this area. Mine is just over 4x5 and the contractor made a reference that it was to code.

I was thinking lighter too. Wanted to keep the brick the same color. But I have also thought of painting it majority white like a house I did before with black trim.

I keep going back to darker colors, because your brick is relatively dark. Although the front picture is still in shadow making the brick darker than it is.

When you paint, first do a sample on foam core and look at it on all sides especially the front and at different times of the day. Paint the board trim, not the gable trim (facia), the same color as the siding. Painting it a different color, puts the house in a prior decade.

That actually does not look to bad. I am still thinking light colors but that looks pretty damn good. Thanks for your input!

And I challenge you to hook a length of chain to your bumper or truck and pull out all of those misshapen shrubs after a soaking rain. They need to be out of the way of the painters & scaffolding anyway. Then start new and fresh. I would also replace the siding on the front with something more updated, maybe from James Hardie. White would be nice on your home.

Do not hook a length of chain to your bumper unless you want to tear it off. They are made of plastic and designed for easy replacement. You can cut them back and reshape them but if painters can not work around them do not hire them.

Maybe this will work. This gray has a slight green undertone. I think it looks good with your brick.

I would do a brick walk, improve the stair rails (probably do black metal) and re-landscape, grind down the tree stump, etc

I couldn’t do trim for other front window in my mick up. Too small scale but I would trim that out too and paint it black too.

Here are some possible paint color but you need to get some paint chips then narrow choices and order 2-3 from samplize.com. Check out in your light. Remember, outside colors look lighter due to all the natural light hitting the house. Check color on all sides. Paint garage doors same as body of house. Two colors for small homes works best. Less busy.

You people driving those new plastic cars need your heads examined! Oh well, they'll all be off the road shortly! LOL

A question that I should have asked earlier is where is the house located? In colder climates darker colors would work but in warmer areas dark colors would hold the heat. Those metal railings while nice can give a really bad burn when it is hot especially when the sun shines on them for hours.

Are you keeping this house for your own use Regionald or flipping it?

decoenthusiaste My old Saturn had plastic side doors. A big SUV drove into me at a slow speed and there was hardly a scratch and no dent. Can't say the same for the SUV.

I like the white with black trim. I really dislike the “shmeer” option shown. Don’t be afraid to paint brick. A good masonry primer and paint are needed, though. Purists seem to think brick shouldn’t be painted. Totally disagree. Brick in it’s natural state only looks good to me on classic architecture like Georgian colonials or some Tudors. Painting all white with the black trim will give it a fresh, updated look. And it is not any harder to maintain than painted clapboard. We’ve lived in a house that is white painted brick and whiteclapboard for 40 years. Maintaining the brick paint has never been a problem.

I think if brick only looks good to you on Georgian colonials and some Tudors, then you should be afraid to paint brick. (Not sure how ”classic” is being used here. Georgian colonials are themselves not ”classic” but pastiche transpants that were made of wood, not brick,, and Tudors are only properly called classic if they are classic Tudors.) Brick can be a great building material that isn’t improved by paint, any more than marble or glass is.

Most of those sheamer brick facing used to be original to a house and not something that was painted later. In this area they were generally a veneer of porous lava rock painted in various colors with a few left natural. Not my cup of tea but if someone wants it so be it.

I wouldn't do a pure white, because it is cool and the brick and the roof are warm tones. Best of luck.

Here are some good off whites.

Lancaster white:

A good warm off white is SW Alabaster. It will show white but not stark. I painted most of interior with Alabaster recently and we wanted warm white but no yellow. It’s perfect. I am having trouble with posting on Houzz but here is SW Alabaster inside. It’s yummy.

Regionald Withers, I think you are on the right track, white or off white. It will have a lovely cottage look. Maybe white if you paint the brick, too, and off white if you keep the brick? But no trendy dark colors, this little house wants to be light and happy, I can tell! (Joking, but you know what I mean.)

Another reason why I’d like the clapboard and the brick painted the same white, that I forgot to mention before: The clapboard on the left side is not just horizontal, it’s been done in a definite design. The natural brick is another pattern, so painting all in a white or off white would reduce the “business” on the front of the house.
