I do not recommend matte quartz. There are way too many issues. Search the threads here. Soapstone is a fabulous matte surface. Very tactile. Leathered Uba Tuba is one of those stones that surprises you. Dirt cheap, and gorgeous when it isn’t shiny. Lots of natural stones look great leathered, and it greatly softens and blurs any movement. You can do a great organic modern look with any of them. Visit a few stone yards.

Touch latches on cabinet doors sound like a good idea, but what's the cabinet finish gonna look like where you keep touching it in the same place again and again, and often with fingers with food on them? Maybe some Navy knobs?

There are many concrete look-alike solid surfaces that look great with a matte finish. Unlike sintered, you can make seamless 90* corners and unlike engineered stone and the real thing, it doesn't stain.
