I love cocoa shell mulch and have used it for over a decade. Here, dogs are supposed to be leashed, and any I have ever seen, are. I prefer the cocoa shells as their texture is much more attractive than any other mulch in my perennial beds.

I get mine at my local Agway store. They have special-ordered it for me in the past -- I usually buy 3-6 of them. You might try asking locally if someone will order some for you. Good luck!

If you live on or near the west coast, hazelnut shells are a safer and cheaper choice. And the texture is very similar to the cocoa shells. They make a very pleasing crunch when you walk on them if used to surface any walkways :-)

I was thinking of the possibility of the OP having their own dog snuffling about in their own yard. Would that be leashed?

Well I found some on Amazon. Not the brand I used to get, but I'm hopeful it will be similar. Can't wait for the chocolate aroma in my fern garden!!
