I have used a matte finish on quartz and it's turned out really well. The matte finish tends to look similar to the classic gloss without the shine. I would be careful with going dark and matte since you will see fingerprints on matte. I have not used a honed finish for primary spaces like a kitchen. This does have some texture to it and is better suited for accent areas. All companies have slight variations, I would get a few samples and bring them into the space to see how you like it first. We have honed matte quartz in our kitchen called Metropolitan. It resembles finished concrete. It’s medium Gray and it does not show fingerprints.

@Jacqui Naud thank you for the photo, I love it! Do you remember which brand carried the metropolitan? also, does it have a texture to it? I was in the stone place and some had funky textures and some were decent but I'd love to know your experience with a non-sample size.

@Studio Whitford thank you for you help! i agree some texture seems to be present in the honed or matte varieties and honestly i'm not a huge fan of some of them. do you know of any that are relatively flat? my mom has a honed granite and i love it but obviously being granite it's smooth and unlike quartz. i guess i'm trying to resemble the finish of honed granite but with a different stone (i know i want a lot!).

@Andrea, my sample was a three inch square. I never saw the slab until it was installed. I was initially surprised by the subtle texture and light mottling, but once I realized it resembles finished concrete I was happy because we have finished concrete in our family room.
