no but my white one threw some seed across a gravel drive and into the grass and i have a little 4 inch plant with little leaves and maybe first buds of flowers. we'll see. that's the only baby i've ever had off of it in 8 years.

I never see seedlings in my garden either. They drop seeds every year, I wonder why.

When we bought this house 23 years ago, there was one existing dicentra that was quite large (3 foot diameter) and bloomed like crazy. Over the years, it has seeded itself here and there, and those seedling grew and seeded around also. Eventually, the mother plant has decreased in size, but is still healthy enough. I just let any seedlings grow wherever they choose.

I did plant a white form many years ago which also got large, which I adore, but it was much more reluctant to produce seedlings. And the original of the white one has disappeared completely by now, sadly. I don't know why... Wish I had more of these!

Long explanation (sorry) to say: I have never tried to grow dicentra deliberately in pots(?). I'd just scatter your ripe seed in a few garden locations and see what happens. Good luck either way!

I love bleeding hearts too, Roxanna. I was buying more every year at plant sales for quite awhile. I had some very large mature plants that were pink and then one year they disappeared. I still don't know what happened to them. It was odd because the only bleeding hearts that came back that spring were all white. So I've been buying all pink and started trying Valentine which is almost a red. I wonder if my soil is too heavy. I also saw mole tracks the winter I lost them, but that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. I love the white bleeding heart with purple Honesty, because here they bloom together. I keep trying to get a good impact with them, but I've lost so many dicentra, that I've moved on to other things.[g]
