Personally, I would paint them the same color as the wall. Let them just be molding.

Maybe just one shade darker than the wall on the color strip. Filling the openings with stenciled trellis and flowers would probably be over the top for you.

Time to update the chandelier and furnishings for this space IMO.

The arches detail seems a bit contrived and not very well thought thru. Reference to Spanish or Mediterranean is fine, but perhaps better with a gentle reference instead.

I would eliminate the arches and take advantage of the curved nook with a matching curved banquette and handpainted plates hung on the curved wall to add color and interest. A newly updated wrought iron chandelier could complete the concept.

I agree with Beverly about the chandelier. It needs an update.

As for the arches, I might be more inclined to square them off or add an ogee and add molding around the edges. Then you can add some wallpaper.
