Boron deficiency can have that effect. Very little is needed in a plant so it's easy to correct with the right fertiliser.

That's correct, the deficiency affects fruit from first development through to maturity and is irreversible. Don't over apply Boron, in higher concentrations it becomes toxic to plants. Follow recommendations on the packaging.
