It is raining here today so will get planted in the next few days. Here is what I ordered.

I have been rearranging 2 beds and now I have to rethink where I want to plant them. My Hostas have been growing like crazy and getting all jammed up

I like to have space in between them. I am on another hosta group on FB and someone suggested that they "trim" or pull out some pips in the spring instead of digging and separating. They went on to say they do this because they had HVX in their garden and that has resolved the spreading.

Any..... that is where I am at.

One of nice things about having the hostas close together is that there are less weeds.

Shadow: Finally !!! I was wondering if you'd ever gotten them. They look healthy, so at least the delay didn't effect that. And yes, the box looks familiar. Hope you had your vacuum or broom handy when you took them out of the box. LOL.

Fingers crossed that the rain holds up soon, so you can get them in the ground.

They look great!! Make sure to ”tape” them. When I received my wave runner, it was so tall. I grabbed a stick to hold it up. BUT BUT==>> I didn’t tape them…….rather I used a piece of garden ”velcro” and tha just didn’t do it! Out of the 4-5 leaves it had ,only 2 are still upright. We have had some heavy rain falls and that just bent the new leaves right over. Live and learn……..always listen to Ken! :-)

Just reading about taping hostas, and wish I'd read that back when my hosta order arrived, because I tired the string and stick approach with Rubies and Ruffles, and the string kept falling down, as did the leaves. Wonder if it would help if I taped it now? And what kind of tape is that? Like Painter's Tape?

It definitely could still help and yes, that's blue painter's tape, but really any masking tape will do. I would NOT suggest using duct tape. One of the few times when I don't.

the tape is supposed to fall off by itself.. due to heat.. rain.. etc ...

so the cheaper the tape.. the faster it falls off the better ....

i once bought a dollar store roll.. it was so poorly made.. i couldnt unroll it off the spool.. that was too cheap.. lol ...

if it doesnt fall of.. just cut it open.. and leave the rest there to fall off later ... at some point.. the plants return enough turgidity ... water pressure in the leaves.. that they wont flop ...

and trust me on letting it fall off on its own.. i destroyed a lot of leaves trying to take it off ...

Never heard of the tape trick. I learned from ken, about 10 years ago, about tying the hostas before digging & moving/transplanting. How come you didn't tell me about tape? Also about the driveway. But who needs a driveway when you can step on the plant several times in the process of transplanting it. Smush its roots good, then plant it. Or lose track of it and leave it out in sun for a week or so? So much fine horticultural info on these forums. The best is "if it pisses you off, get rid of it."
