The NOIDS are starting to bloom

I have three NOIDS and a random seeding from somewhere. They are all blooming or getting their flower stalks.

    Seedling

I know this hosta looks like Fragrant Blue……but it’s not. I went through trying to ID this as FB, but when it finally bloomed, the flower was not the same as FB. It is a Dead Ringer for FB, perhaps I will call it that. If utog can have ”Sportsball,” then I can have ”Dead Ringer.”

    lol……..lol

Do you have a full pic of the 2nd one to show form? It looks like Fortunei Aureomarginata. Your seedling can never be named, it will just be a nice green seedling that does well for you.

Lol, ken, these won’t match anything…….been trying for years to no avail.

Peren, I rarely take photos of this one because I know it’s a NOID.

I do have FAMs and they are very different.

#1 Looks like my Holly's Dazzler. Flowers don't seem to be the same, but could yours just be washed out in the picture?

Your second one may be Twilight.

Migardener, the leaves are a good match for HD, but the flowers are not even close. Mine are a light lavender stripe.

tj, you could be right…. here’s a leaf shot and the flower. Wada you think??

Thanks ken……neither is fragrant. You are right, it was from Herb Benedict. I had to look it up since you wouldn’t! :-)

    Formal Attire for variegated one?

Thanks utog, I don’t think mine is Formal Attire (I wish). It lacks any blue/ blue green coloring…….it is always green with yellow margin. It also lacks the size that FA has. FA has leaves that are 9-11” long and 7-8” wide with 12 vp. Also is 30” tall tall. Mine is nowhere near that size, but not a bad guess. It’s not a bad looking NOID….. gets a nice flower.

Tj, Twilight is a good guess but it differs in many ways. Twilight is bigger, shinier and a rapid grower. I swear mine has been the same size for 10 years, when I planted it. I didn’t expect anyone would ID these…….just wanted to share that they were flowering which they haven’t consistently done. Thanks!

Mine was getting a nice size and then started shrinking. I lifted and replanted this spring. The first pic in the HL is mine in better days. Can’t say I’d call the leaves shiny and I wanted to compare your flowers to mine but rabbits mowed the scapes down…blasted fur rats.

Well mine looksa lot like that first picture. What are your leaf sizes and plant size? Let’s compare, if you’re willing. Maybe mine is stunted by the maple roots under the front yard. Would not be surprised, after digging up a few under performing hostas this weekend, I had an entire pot of tree roots!

Debra, your NOIDs are beautiful. They are perfect specimens. So, I propose that the green be called DJ Waves of Green, and the variegated, DJ Napoli.

Like I mentiomed, mine is smaller than it was but the lifting seems to be helping. Leaf size is only 6-7 imches and the whole plant is only anout 14 inches across.

You know tj, that is about the size of mine and my flower matches what is in the HL…….perhaps it is Twilight. Perhaps I will assume it is! How about that!! hahaha!

utog, I like the DJ Waves of Green! tj and I think the margined hosta is possibly Twilight.. So Dead Ringer and DJ Waves of Green……..it’s fun to have your own hosta!
