Living Room Layout

Rectangle living room layout ideas. Getting all new furniture except for TV stand that is pictured. Oversized chair is going- too big for that room. TV stand has room to go up against the wall, just isn’t there yet. Rug is also staying.

A 3-seat sofa and 2 comfy upholstered armchairs or swivel chairs is always a good base to start with. I would prefer the TV on one of the walls in the big chair corner so it is not the first thing guests see when entering your home. It is well worth the investment to move connections so your space is well arranged around a TV. I would try the sofa on the currently planned TV wall with a great piece of art hung 5" above it. Place two chairs and a table and lamp in the window. Your rug should anchor the seating, so you want to consider those measurements when shopping for sofa and chairs. The TV and stand won't need to be on the rug. Once the main seating and TV are placed, you can consider adding casegoods and additional lighting.

I can only give advice about lighting. Lighting is often an afterthought when designing a room, however, it does a lot for atmosphere. In my opinion, have at least one table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. A ceiling light doesn't do anyone any favors. I would go with Overstock online or Target.

Definitely move tv/console. Then define your seating needs and here is an alternative to the above using a sectional.

It looks like you might be able to put the TV with console on one of the walls where the big chair is. Then you could easily try a sectional or a sofa with two chairs. Here are a few images from our design portfolio that might just help you with this dilemma.

What are the rules as to putting a chair close to the opening of the room?
I ordered a white sectional (orange markings) and put the TV and console on the wall shown. There’s a tiny bit of space in purple but prob not enough for chairs. I don’t think putting a chair right at front door area is a good idea. It will make it feel so crowded right as you open the front door.
