I have a mosquito hat with a net that protects my head and neck, but not my hands or forearms. By all means, get one, but make sure it fits you well as a work hat, and make sure that the net stands out far enough from your face and ears. Mosquitoes can carry any one of several serious diseases, so your municipality, if you live in one, should have a Health Department that sprays for mosquitoes. And get some good mosquito repellent to wear on your person (hands and forearms). Some mosquito-carried diseases are comparable in seriousness to Covid, in that they can kill you.

and someone once bought me a net hat ... its still in the garage 25 years later.. worn once .... i think its rotting now ...

go cheap.. and buy one at wallyworld.. and see if you like it.. before you invest in an expensive version .....

otherwise ... spray some off in your clean hands.. and do your head and neck hair .. and suck it up .. buttercup ...

you always have the option to just go shopping for more plants.. and staying out of the garden.. lol ...

My BF just gave me a mosquito net that fits over any hat. I just got it yesterday so haven’t tried it yet, but it seems like it would work just fine. He bought it on amaz*n.

Yep you wont catch me out there....the mosquitos are Barbaric!!!

Around me many are all green netting, but I prefer ones that have a black, less visually intrusive panel in front of my face.

Btw, the Off clip-on mosquito repellant works great for me. I clip it to my belt.

i also recall... my long sleeve.. long pants over-clothes.. were inundated with off.. and were shed/left in the garage ... where they stayed until the next use ... when they were left standing in a corner without support.. was the usual clue they needed washing.. lol ...

also avoid all fragrance in the garden... that includes perfumes.. smelly shampoos... skin creams.. etc ... no use in wearing lures.. aka attractants ...

Absorbine Jr. Use a light coat on arms and neck and face. Lasts a couple hrs. We're fisherman and it works for barn flies and skeeters for maybe two hours and then I start hearing the bugs squeaking in my ears! We went to a retriever event (dogs retrieving "ducks" in a lake) and these small black flies were driving us nuts--like 10 on your face at once!! A friendly passerby shared their absorbine jr and we were sooooo thankful!!!

They are just horrible this year!!! I have many bites from just going out into the yard with my dog. I have never seen so many around like this year. It is this horrible weather we have been having. I am a fan of spraying the old clothes and letting them stay out in the garage if that what it takes. I do not have that much of a garden. Good luck with the battle with one of the worst summer bugs.

Amazon has just the netting, that you put over your own hat; I ordered some, but haven’t received it yet. Not as cute as the hats with built-in netting, but my head is big, and the hats with netting (on Amazon, at least) seem to be one size fits most, which most certainly would exclude my noggin.

I’ve been using Deep Woods Off all season and even that doesn’t work all the time. Plus it dissolves my toe nail polish, which is a bit disconcerting. :-/

Do you know that you can get jackets made of mosquito netting with the hat built in? It might be worth it if the mosquitos are that bad in your yard.

I worry about the clip on repellants because I don’t want to be inhaling whatever is in the repellant.

I've heard many complain of the skeeters this year. We've had more rain this summer -- particularly for July -- than I recall us having in most years. Makes for lots of standing water which equates to lots of skeeters. With their population being so high, I suspect competition amongst the blood-sucking b**ches for a blood meal is high and is contributing to their increased aggressiveness. Guess we should all be glad that we only have to deal with the females. Be that much worse if the males also were into blood.

I ordered these from Amazon and they are working out great!! I throw one over my straw hat or my baseball cap and they keep the blood suckers away from my face, which I don’t like putting repellent on. Super convenient for taking the dogs out, too.

Those nets look nice. I purchased these similar mosquito nets from Amazon (that is a clickable link) because they are extra roomy to accommodate my garden hat that has an extra-wide brim. (I have several garden hats.) But I agree with you, it makes sense to buy a mosquito net that you can use with your existing hats.

I have equipped my two bug zappers with mosquito attractants to make a dent in their population. I am killing a lot of mosquitoes, but our rural location is loaded with pools and streams that can serve as mosquito breeding places. So we have a seemingly unending supply of "skeeters". We have several different species of mosquitoes here. I think I have observed all of them on me, at one time or the other.

I also recently bought the kind of netting from Amazon, that goes over an existing hat. I did make the mistake of getting white netting, which does produce a mist or fog effect on my vision. So, get the black netting. other than that, it does work. My mosquitos have also been more numerous and aggressive - they find any little dot of skin that doesn't have enough repellant, and that tends to be on my face near my eyes.
