Technically, the 4" piece is considered the backsplash. Many on this forum will advise you to remove it if you plan to cover up the wall behind the range. What are your plans for the other walls?

Maybe you could have that section cut out and replace with a pretty multicolored tile arranged in a pretty pattern. Another option would be to have an artist come in and paint a pretty picture/pattern on the existing tiles. Either option would provide a focal point and more color to the kitchen.

I love your blue cabinets! How about pretty blue peel and stick wallpaper or wall tiles?

Your kitchen is lovely. With your kitchen set-up it may look a little disjointed to install a backsplash just behind the range. You may want to consider tile on that full wall. Not only is it beautiful and will provide a focal point, but it's easier to clean and heat resistant, just make sure that the grout is a power grout which provides stain, shrink and crack resistance and does not need any additives. I suggest bringing the tile from the top of the countertop 4" backsplash to the bottom of the wall cabinets and then to the top of the cabinets behind the range and hood.

Also think backsplash needs to be entire wall above all 4” backsplash, and not just behind the range. I like a classic white subway, so that it doesn’t compete with the counter tops, maybe play with tile size.

I agree with Betsy Neelon. My daughter has this exact range hood and she had the tile installed behind the hood from the countertop to the ceiling and it looks beautiful. I'm not sure it would look right any other way.

Also, if you plan on installing a backsplash under all of the cabinets, consider removing the 4 inch stone backsplash and tile all the way to the countertops. It is a much cleaner look :)

A friend of mine, whose kitchen colors are the same as yours, used a silvery gray laminate for backsplash. Amazingly effective!

Love my small rectangular/square stainless steel tile pattern behind my stove. Ties in with the range hood. Wipe down easily with stainless steel spray cleaner.

Stainless steel tiles are nice - or how about large tin ceiling tiles (painted with very durable paint) from your backsplash to stove hood = texture at a lower cost.

Hi! IMO with such a busy stone, I would do a glass tile in the color scheme of your countertop. Something that adds shine but not more texture. Glass is easy to maintain and adds a nice finish!

I would take the 4" backsplash off and run a satin finish stainless steel tile (as pictured above by someone) around that entire kitchen wall(s)... wherever there's a rise between your lowers and uppers. I have it in my summer home and it's absolutely gorgeous. I did not use this shape...I'd offer you what I used but it would be too busy with your countertop.

my current state...need a vent hood idea. Decided to be bold and take to ceiling. Still need to replace crowns.

Since you have taken the tile all the way up the wall it would be best to choose one that lets as much of the tile show as possible. The old hood you had in your previous pictures would work well. Let us know what you decide to do..
