Flower stalks cut down

Anyone have this happen or know what does it? In the past I've had a few flower stalks bitten or cut off like this but this year there are many being cut down. So far only a few leaves hve been cut down smilar to this but not eaten.

I'm guessing it must be some kind of climbing cut worm but can never locate any. I first suspected rabbits or ground hogs doing it to get moisture from it.

I don't really care much about the flowers but I'd like to get the culprits before they get to many more leaves.

i doubt it .... i suspect they do it just for spite ...

i mean really ... i can get over allowing some damage on the basis that you are starving to death ...

but when its this vicious random destruction for no purpose... its just stupid ...

A clean diagonal cut is the calling card of rabbits, Happened to a couple of mine as well.

Sorry this happened to LSPP………or any other hosta for that matter. I love my hosta flowers, but I haven’t ever gotten one on my 3 year LSPP yet. Still waiting for that……. I hope no more munchies take place! :-)

My LSPP had three lovely flower stalks this year, and two were felled by the same clean cuts. The thicker stalks on my Touch of Class very nearby are untouched...at least so far.

tsugajunkie, Rabits were my first thought and right now there are lots of young ones around. Do you think they are just after the moisture? They don't seem to eat the stems or leaves, just cut them off. Time to re-spray!

My experience with rabbits is they cut off everything on a plant that they think they might eat, then take a break and admire their work. Then eat a few of the downed parts, and move on, leaving the cut off parts distributed on the ground for me to find the next morning. Damn wabbits.
