That's good to know doors maybe cannot be reversed.

Last I bought was five years ago - Frigidaire. They aren’t highly rated but they were the shallowest depth for a full size and I needed that. I looked at E’lux at the time and liked that the doors could be reversed but the door couldnt be left open a crack - it drifted wide open which didnt work in my laundry space. They’ve been fine. I had Frigidaire in another house with the same hallway laundry situation and they also worked fine.

Our current one is a Frigidaire Affinity. Whirlpool makes something called closet sized.

We bought a new LG pair in Dec 2019. My washer had a hiccup and I knee-jerked after a repair disaster with a Whirlpool pair years before -- 2 months without a washer and they would not repair under the warranty. I could get a new pair that wouldn't fit my space or nothing. That's when I got an LG pair that I loved -- back when they had the dark blue. I gave the blue set to my yard man and his son took them and has been using them, so apparently there wasn't a real problem. LOL We got an even larger pair even though there are usually just the two of us and it sure makes quick work of laundry, but the main reason I love them is for washing quilts or comforters. The larger dryer tumbles bulky items better and gives air more space to circulate so they dry more evenly. No more taking them out, turning and putting them back in 2 or 3 times to get them dry. Some things can just be spread out to finish drying, but I'm not willing to risk down not getting dry and turning funky. Another thing I love about the new one is the magnet on the door -- keeps the door just slightly ajar so the drum can dry without the door being wide open. My drum seal is clean and no funky smells. I didn't have a problem with the old pair, but I did keep the door open.

My son has an LG pair also and is very happy with them, though he got a top loader due to the laundry configuration of his first place and now kind of wishes he'd gotten a front loader. Next one.

From all I heard when we were looking, I'd avoid Samsung. Apparently the quality control on a number of their appliances is very poor. The salesman steered us away from the laundry machines -- wish he done the same on my son's refrigerator. It is dying at less than 3 years old.

The doors on my set can go on either side. Here’s a picture of my machines so you can see how the door would land in relation to the floor. I’m 4’11 and if the guy hadn’t thrown in the pedistals it would have been a deal breaker. Now they’re so tall, I have to stand on a stool to put the soap in the drawer!

Just got an Asko three weeks ago. Love it!

It only needs a cold water hook-up. The caveat is that the washer plugs into the matching dryer. If you don't buy the pair you will have to have the correct 220 V outlet installed by an electrician.

I have Whirlpool ( W and D) bought about 3 yrs ago. I am very pleased. I noticed in the most recent Consumer Reports Whirlpool did not rank very high fwiw. I am pleased though

According to a chart in August Consumer Reports, LG is the most reliable, with the double green arrows, then single green arrows for Miele, Electrolux, and Samsung. Whirlpool, Maytag, and Frigidaire are a yellow in the middle of the pack.

Love my Electrolux washer and dryer. Huge drums, steam and have had both for 9 yrs.

I just bought an Electrolux set because the door on the washer is reversible (as well as the dryer), which I needed. There is no warranty service for Miele here and if I remember correctly it's iffy for some other less mainstream brands. I was very hesitant to get the Electrolux because of so many reviews complaining of mildew in the machines and stinky clothes because of it. So I've been very careful to always leave the door open after washing a load and I pull out the drawer where the soap goes and let it dry in the utility sink. I also try to plan my wash loads so the last load is bleached towels. I figure that bleach will help prevent mold if any dampness is left in the machine. I like it pretty well so far.

Had an Electrolux which I think was the 627. The machine never had mold and never smelled because I would remove the detergent drawer and dry inside the drawer compartment as well as dry the boot when done using the washer for the day. The door always remained wide open. I would do tub cleans with affresh tabs. The machine smelled great but did a crappy job of cleaning clothes. Permastink built up in the clothes over time. I made sure not to over dose detergent, used STPP, no fabric softner and used heavy duty, heavy soil, warm setting for clothing. When the clothing was dry you couldnt really smell anything but when you would wash the clothes and they got wet they stunk. It was disgusting. I would open the washer door after the cycle was done and be hit with a nasty smell. We took the washer apart thinking it was something in the washer. Found nothing and it all smelled clean. I had had enough and it was taken away when my new LG front loader was delivered. I like the LG much better. I can use more detergent without oversudsing. I think it rinses better as well.

Loved the LGs I purchased for our last house, to the point of missing them here (even though we have LG here too - just not the same models). Never smelled and the gasket stayed clean. I did dry after using.

oh and after reading this, I wanted to add that I am very diligent about wiping the gasket and removing the detergent drawer. I think that's a must with front loaders.

We bought Maytag front loaders 4 years ago and I really like them. I do the same as Salonva - remove the dispenser and once in a while wipe the gasket.

I know a lot of people trust the Consumer Reports, but I’ve never found their information to be that reliable. They always seem to rate what’s historically the worst products high and the more popular brands low. My sister is an LG fan, I don’t know per say how reliable they are but she’s happy with hers. Honestly, I was nervous about the Electrolux but there were so many who loved theirs in the laundry forum, I thought it was worth a try. I’ve never had a problem with smells or mildew, but I always leave the door open so it can air out. If I wash something extra dirty, I wipe out the gasket and run the cleaning cycle.

I prefer top loader, but I absolutely love our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer. They are several years old now but so far, not one bit of trouble. I would guess they have a top loader model. Check them out! I could seriously do a commercial for the company. hehe

Still looking. DH will help me re-measure the space. Just like cars, washers have gotten much bigger in their models.

2katz, last weekend was Blue's one year "adoptaversary" or "gotcha day." He's so much fun.

Following, because my Bosch is 15 years old & I've loved it since day 1, absolutely no problems. Dismayed that there are no more discussions on water temps on these new washers. If I can't get one that at least does real hot (125) & 155 for sanitary, I will not be happy. No Miele service here. Have contemplated the Bosch 2.2 cu ft, but don't know if that could do a queen comforter. Presently looking at the Electrolux, but info on these machines is scarce. I want to be prepared when this one goes. Doesn't anyone care about hot water anymore?

The current washer is 3.5 cu ft. capacity. The stackables are about 2.4 cu ft. while the other ones are around 4.3 cu ft. or so. Anyone have a 2.4 cu capacity?

Cadyren, the Asko is 2.8 cu ft. The sanitary cycle is 90 C/194 F.

It has reversible doors and you can keep the door closed at all times with the venting system.

I actually would have gotten a Maytag if I could have but I'm not sure if the Maytag has reversible doors.

Consumer reports really seems to like the samsungs but I don't trust how they arrive at their reliability scores. I looked at reviewed.com, good housekeeping and other sources too.

I built a new home recently and went with LG WM3900 which now has a newer model number. It came down to the GE or LG for me. I liked that the LG is a bit smaller physically on the exterior and it was a tried and tested model whereas the GE is very new. Though the LG is trim on the exterior, the tub is huge. I'm happy with my selection.

The height of our cabinet space is 39 1/4 so anything 39" high is going to be super tight which seems to be most of the LG's, then the GE Nick posted is almost 40". Can't go higher. DH does not want the smaller capacity since we have 3.5 cu ft now, which doesn't seem to be made anymore. The Electrolux seem to be 38." @Lukki Irish, do you know which model you have? They are at least in stock and available.

Is a steam feature helpful or no?

I would avoid a Whirlpool, we bought one about 4 years ago and already had to replace it. We now have an LG. Too early to know how well it will perform. Our previous Whirlpool lasted 17 years, so the most recent one was quite a disappointment.

I bought the LG WM4000HWA model in February and I really like.

Unfortunately, the LG will not fit our under cabinet space--I do not want to risk 1/4 in clearance, so I am talking to the rep for the Electrolux. This is the place where I bought the Bosch DW and they have a good variety of appliances in-stock at the store.

The Miele are much smaller and need to be ordered that will take weeks to come in.

And it can be here on Monday!

The Electrolux ELF627 is their top of the line model. I'd go with that.

I just found out a couple days ago that my SO purchased new Samsung front loading washer and dryer. I don’t even know what the model is at the moment. I’m still kinda in shock that he purchased these without discussing it with me. His heart was in the right place - wanted it to be a surprise. I’m renovating the laundry room + adding a doggie shower, but wasn’t going to spend money on new washer/dryer since my current ones work very well even though they are older.

I could exchange them if I asked, but I would feel bad. Heck, I don’t even know if I’d need to exchange them because I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about them + haven’t researched other models.

...........I don't have an input on a washer/dryer.... but... you know, there is that "rule."

Yes, @boba1, the model 627. They have it in-stock. Confirmed delivery, install, and haul away for Monday afternoon! I don't even have to go to the laundromat! But I've dried the wet towels that were in the machine and I'll rewash them tomorrow.

@dani_m08, I am sure they will be fine. We've had a Samsung dryer for awhile now. Nice to have new in a renovation. But I am also of the mindset to keep what I have as well if there is nothing wrong with it and try to repair within reason. We've repaired the current washer multiple times. I purchased/downloaded the repair manual and have bought parts. Although now it is at the point where the parts will likely run $500 and maybe not even fix. . You can always sell the old set on Nextdoor, Facebook Marketplace, etc.

Samsung dryers had a history of the drums cracking apart at weld seams. Don't know how common but enough that it was a "thing" for a while. Maybe they solved the problem. My sister has one, it hasn't exhibited that failure. The circa 2011 pair (WF330 and DV330) was given to her by friends who destroyed the washer at 5yrs with bad usage habits. Too much cold washing, overdosing of liquid softener, and never running the Tub Clean cycle (which heats to 130°F on it) turned the drum spider to crumbling gravel. It broke during spin, the edge of the drum tore a gash in the outer tub. I fixed all that. Sister has better usage habits (per my insructions to her) but the spider may be crumbling again. The machine wouldn't drain last year, I found the sump / pump housing and hoses clogged with debris of various composition, some looked kinda like spider gravel. I didn't examine the spider, requires complete disassembly of the machine to do that.

Hi, So they’ve updated their models since we bought ours but we went mid range, The closest one is ELFW7537AW. They’ve either added features or changed the labeling for treating stains. I see you bought one though, I’m sure you’ll like it. I LOVE the steam feature. I don’t use the one on the washer but I use the heck out of it with the dryer. Speaking of dryers, the dryer is wonderful. I’m coming from a Whirlpool that advertized it could dry 20 towels at one time but couldn’t dry 5 w/in 2 hours. Awful. My favorite feature on the dryer is the 10 minute refresh with steam.

ETA: My goal when I was shopping was to get something that could sanitize, with my hubby being sick I thought it would be helpful, and it was.

I really do love the features and capacity of my Electrolux. I had a Frigidaire stacked set before that I repaired and repaired because it fit the space (narrow passageway to the back door) and no one makes one as shallow any more. The Electrolux is not shallow but I decided if I could reverse the door on the washer, I would just live with less walking space in front of the machines.

As I wrote above, I hesitated because of the reviews about stinky clothes, but so far no problems. I DO use the extra rinse option for most loads because of complaints from other users that the machines don't use enough water for cleaning.

I love the 15 minute fast wash for some things, usually a small load that I don't feel needs the extra rinse.

My local small business appliance center had them in stock when I was hearing of long waits from the big box stores for appliances - I bought the dark color, because it was what they had in stock; not sure what they call it, but it looks very nice.

That's great, Oly. I asked for the right hand hinge since ours is next to a wall, so that will be convenient to get it to open that way. Oh yeah, they are so much deeper and taller, thought width is about the same.

Dadoes - The main computer board went out. The appliance repair man that we used told us that he could repair but recommended that at the cost of the computer board, we buy another machine. He has repaired other older appliances for us and has been very honest in his recommendations of repair or replace.

Yes, sadly after just over 10 years my LG front load washer went out. I really loved its performance all the way up until it's death. I considered repairing but the cost would be nearly as much as a new washer.

After a fair amount of research, I opted to buy another LG front load washer and decided to get the matching dryer and sell my old one. I checked Consumer Reports and Wirecutter, and read a bunch of other reviews. In the end these LG options came up on top. I don't think they'll be easy/cheap to repair if the break, but hopefully I should get another 10 years or more out of them. These are the ones I bought.

I purchased in white (which happens to be less expensive) because I like the look of white laundry appliances, even though I prefer stainless kitchen appliances.

So far the clothes wash very well. I like that the new washer and dryer have a heavy glass door and it feels very substantial. The dryer dries better than my old dryer did. Overall I'm pleased.

It is here! Wow, 105 min for a heavy duty towel cycle. Our old one was 55 minutes.

That is the super max cycle though. Probably a good idea since these were the towels that got wet in the old washer and I just redried them. The normal heavy cycle is 85 minutes, so that might be the more normal for towels.

Yeah, cycles are longer but I noticed such a huge difference in how clean they were! Did you get the dryer too? Or just the washer?

Oh! And, it has a delay timer so you can set it to wash in the middle of the night and be done for drying in the am. I use that alot especially when I’m watering or have something happening that needs the water.

No we did not get the matching dryer. We have a Samsung dryer.

I love that feature, particularly with longer wash times. I just bought a new W/D (coming Saturday!) and that was one of the major reasons I wanted to replace the set that was here when I bought my condo. And they were on sale ;)

I forgot that one of my favorite things about the Electrolux dryer (although you say you didn't get the dryer) is the lint trap. The mesh is so fine, the design is quite efficient, so I feel pretty confident that not much lint is escaping into the vent. My old set didn't filter as well; the filter didn't sit snugly into its slot, so I could see build up down in the machine that I couldn't even get out with a vacuum.

Yeah we’ll have to see. Now we realize the capacity of the washer and dryer are different. I’ll need to check the capacity of the dryer. We can wash more but maybe not dry it. Of course, I hang dry my good workout leggings, thin tank tops, bras, undies.
