I think you need to know the wood species before deciding fllor color stain. I happen to like dark floors and IMO swiffers are your best friend with dark floors. If you are working with red ok the dream of light floors is a dream they will look pink.

the current wood is gorgeous. you are right about dark tones, every dog hair shows up, dusty footprints too. if you scratch them, you'll get a glaringly bright mark where the stained wood was scraped.

on the other hand, pale floors are a trend (especially the greyish "beachy" tones). not snarking on that look, I think it's gorgeous but has a limited shelf life.

what you have now seems like a nice classic.

I like the light choice you posted, but if you don't have the right wood, you may not end up with that. However, I love the color that they are now. Mid-tone and classic. Dark stain is the worse for showing all dust, pet hair, crumbs, scratches, dried water droplets, etc.
