Which lamp for bedside table?

Hello,

I would appreciate your vote and perspective on the three bedside tables. My preferred style is mid century modern. And suggestion on quilt or duvet pattern also appreciated. The painting peeking through on the right will be framed and hung above the bed.

Many thanks in advance!

    Pictures?

They all look a little short for actually reading in bed...

@Connie Stackhouse, the thumbnails cut off the lamps on the side. Is the thumbnail visible and can you click to view entire photo?

@acm, oh no! Does it matter that I mostly listen to audiobooks or read on a Kindle? Or is it a proportion issue? Thanks!

Tall lamps would look more balanced

I think geometric looks great & i voted that choice, Need to see picture framed before have an opinion on bed dressing. paintin will suggest the colors but I might go with a simple & large scale geometric design.

I would choose second one if I had to. But I think you need taller and heavier. More presence and maybe dark base

Here’s the painting. It sounds like I need to start over in searching for lamps. I liked the style of these lamps on their own but sounds like they don’t work as bedside lamps

I love that painting! Skyscrapers are geometric shapes too! Love the colors. How about getting it framed & hung before deciding on lamps? A metal frame? Golds? I still like the geometric I voted for - maybe you can find similar & taller. For bed - are you into pillows? Maybe a neutral spread with lots of texture - must be something out there besides chenille! Add pillows in colors from water in painting - purple , green, teal, gold …

For frame a friend recommended pewter or charcoal, something in the gray family. The geometric lamp comes in a taller version in either silver or gold.

Karen. I have a couple suggestions. To balance height of drapery you need taller lamps. Second, the art doesn’t relate to anything in the room. It is also high energy so it will work better in a dining area or living room. Even home office. I would go with calmer art. Then add two pillows to repeat your geometric drapery panels and keep calming color palette. Here is mock up.

Might add bed scarf at foot of bed. Something a little fun.

Well, Flo’s ideas are great as they usually are! i do like the pillows she’s added & her lamps are great - height is good & they’re very much like the geometric ones you have in your voting choices. i still like the picture there but Flo does have a point about the high energy of it & I do like the look of the soothing art she has in her mock up. The scarf / throw on the bed adds the touch of texture. Your friend’s suggestion of pewter or charcoal frame for your art is good too - would pull the skyscraper color. I do like matted art - maybe try a white to match the sky clouds.

If you can get the geometric in gold in a taller version I think they will look great.

Do you like the geometric curtains with skyscraper shapes... or does it seem 'busy'? ... the sky and sea seem calming, so I like the simple shaped lamps [wood, and other was rosy coral].

This is lamp I put in mock up. A terrific price for a really chic lamp.

There are a number of rod/bars of bed and handles [on stands]... 'sorry' I think lamp adds even more.

Thanks for all the ideas. To the left of the bed is an exposed brick chimney flue, across a white wardrobe flanked by pocket doors to bathroom and hall. And the right wall has nothing. Have figured out additional function of room. Ceilings are 10’. Was thinking of reorienting the bed to the long blank wall to be able to see out of the windows.
Regarding the painting, I find it a very calming view of San Francisco without the Golden Gate Bridge. (I grew up in the Bay Area.) Additionally having lived my adult life in Manhattan with views of multiple office and apartment buildings, this location is visually simpler and literally quiet most of the time despite also being in a city.
Thank you for the mock-ups! I was wondering if it would be too much to repeat geometric elements and I do see that taller lamps work better.

Art is for your pleasure so no worries. You can tie the art in with a turquoise small vase on your nightstand or some other accents. For best Feng Shui in the bedroom your feet should point to entry door approximately. So be aware of the bed orientation. If you could do a sketch of the out line of the room noting windows widths and dimensions all around the room, I can do a scale drawing for you and try different orientations the easy way. If you don’t have “sliders” pick some up for the type flooring you have. They come in various packages and they make moving furniture a breeze. These are for hardwood or solid flooring. There are also ones if you have carpeting. 😊

Your selections are too short for this bed.

IMO this simple style contrasts nicely with the drapery panels.

I'm just gonna say it.. is there too much with the bed and the patterned curtains and art .. a bit?

If you can still get panels, double what you have and hang them properly

I like this which might be neither distinctly warm or cool. A plain shape. Are the handles a cool tone? 28" H

Agree with @everdebz. I find the curtains' pattern competes with the bed frame. Yes, the proposed lamps are too short for bedside lamps but I'd be more tempted by lamps with curved or rounded bases than overly linear ones.

I noticed your reference to MCM as your preferred style. Not only are the lamps not the right size, but I feel there are much nicer choices. Before framing your art, buying lamps and bedding, I’d step back and decide how MCM you want to head, but more importantly; consider how to pull everything together. Think big picture at this point and perhaps look at inspiration pictures for ideas.

Repetition is a great design tool and use side tables/headboard as the inspirations for lamp, then use a black frame for your art and incorporate art’s colors in bedding choices.

If you used different art, it would be easier to decorate around.

If using your art, suggest going bold and mixing patterns.

    Approximate floor plan
The curtains come from a prior bedroom that had one window and standard ceiling height. I know that they’re probably too short for these windows. Underneath them are cellular shades that open from the top and bottom. The bed frame and painting were purchased last month. I guess I can reevaluate the curtains.

To me represents a neutral beige/dark palette. Dark glass like your city art... :)

This bypasses the gold/cool-handle question, cause it's dark like the stand. Interesting enough too:

sold larger too... I realize bed is 'warm', but this has minimal impact, and rotate art!

@everdebz thanks for the frame referral.

Thank you all for your votes. The overwhelming majority is for the geometric lamps which references the headboard and curtains. However, noted that all options are too short and I need to search for taller lamps. Thank you @BeverlyFLADeziner for the illustration on expected height range of bedside table and lamp. Thank you @decoenthusiaste for instruction on curtain panel. I put these up before moving in to provide immediate privacy. However now behind them are cellular shades for privacy and given the curtains are too short for these windows and wall, I will need to replace them. I am accepting that what worked and I loved from a previous bedroom will not work here and will need to start from blank slate except for the bed frame and painting which are recent purchases for this room.
