I'd probably pick the range wall option (pink). It's more out of the way (which the dog might appreciate) and it won't be the first thing people see when they come in the door on the right or when they're sitting at the breakfast table (which would be the case if the bowls were in the island).

I wouldn‘t want one built in. We put down bowls, the dogs eat, then we put them in the dishwasher. Theyre only out for 1 minute, twice a day. You must have some other situation…

We don't leave dog food bowls out. Our female red Texas Lacy Game dog is food aggressive.

Leaving the food bowls out can encourage overeating and food aggressiveness. Our current situation involves 2 Texas Lacy Game Dogs and a Boxer/Lab mix. We feed the dogs in their crates to avoid conflicts.

You can shorten that looong countertop to make more room for dog bowl area at the end. And/or put the refrigerator on that run.

My dogs bowls are out on a mat and actually grazing all day is what dogs should do so IMO the pink spot works best I wash both food and water bowls every day in the DWbut my guy likes to pick away all day and he is a nice weight BTW. We did have 3 dogs and I agree that is a different situation. We ahd and have large dogs so the other thing we did is get raised bowl holders that seemed to be a hit. If this is still a kitchen in the planning stage I will say I never like a sink and range directly across from eachother . I would never have a buitin space for dog bowls dog slobber goes everywhere , is super sticky and needs a good scrub down all the time most cabinet walls cannot handle that amount of scrubbing that is why I have amat that goes in the laundry 2x week and the floor even with the mat still gets slobber next to the mat.

I like this solution....and put it in the pink area, although here it is at the end of the island. Granite and tile offers easy clean up and the pot filler is easy access to fill the water bowl.

Granite and tile might offer easy cleanup, but the wood floor may suffer. I know it would in our house, because we have one dog who slops water around.

Our water bowl will be in the laundry room on the tile floor. Rest of the house has hardwood and one of the dogs makes a big mess ... water dribbles out of her mouth for several feet as she walks away!

I would use the pink area. The dog(s) won't be in your way when cooking. I know I would whip around the island and trip over the dog. Our dog bowls always had dry food and water in them. I guess since they knew they always had food 24/7 they only ate when hungry and were never overweight.

I hate when I see the dog bowl “drawer”. You can’t close the drawer unless you want your pup to die of thirst so what’s the point?
