As an alternative, I'm tempted to drop the deck on my mower all the way to the ground and just scrape up the whole darn yard. Then I can sow new grass seed in October. A mud pit for several months would suck, but at least it would take care of her allergies!

According to the literature, once the applied product is fully dry on the lawn, it is safe for both pets and small children.

I've been hand-pulling weeds all season (and now have a substantial bald spot), but I still have about 75% of the lawn that I haven't touched. I mowed today and can see that the majority of what's left is crabgrass, white clover, goosegrass, and a huge amount of what might be quackgrass but I'm not sure... it has thick blades, spreads out, grows very fast, and after about a week the blades feel almost wooden.

The process I've BEEN doing is "let them fight it out, and the strongest will survive". The problem with that is that it all dies away in the winter, leaving me with patches of lawn and patches of mud pit for several months out of the year. So last year I decided to join the battle, but I think I'm losing, too!! LOL

Your experience with corn gluten meal is the same as mine. One year I applied it every month at 15-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Due to the fertility effect, my lawn looked better than ever, but as far as weeds, nuthin! I had as many weeds that year as any year. If you look at the University of Iowa literature about their original testing of CGM, they really stretched their points to make the claim that it worked at a preemergent. The best results they could get was 80% suppression, and that only happened once, and was not repeatable. To my thinking, 80% suppression would leave me with a lawn full of weeds.

What kind of grass do you have?

Round Up for lawns might still kill your lawn. Read the label. It's horrible that they do not rename their products based on the characteristics. Everything is Round Up no matter what it kills. Read the label carefully to see what it kills.

I keep my dog inside for a day after spraying any herbicide.

I used to spread a mix of seed from Scott's that came from Lowes; I forget what it said, but it had a variety of grasses so that whichever one was best would survive.

None of them EVER lasted beyond the first season.
