None of the pictures are good enough to tell what the groundcover plant in the hell strip and front yard is. It's not saying ivy to me and you have to remember Hollywood has set decorators. Pachysandra would give you that look in that setting.

Remember, English ivy is an invasive plant.

Depend on where you are. In England, it happens to be a native plant. Here, it happens to be something that dies over winter.

You can't tell what it is from the pics, but pachysandra is often planted as a groundcover where it is too shady for grass, if you aren't expecting foot traffic.

@Christopher CNC some of the photos are from Google Street View. It's a real house, not a set. I'm in Canada, and just tore up my hell strip and then I watched the movie and was wondering what it was. I'm thinking of planting ground cover on the hell strip instead of grass.

@Sigrid I'll look into pachysandra, but I think the leaves are too small based on the pics I've found.

Algerian ivy??? Popular here in So Cal back in the 50’s & 60’s, not so much now. It’s very invasive $ requires alot of maintenance. i hate it!

That definitely looks like Algerian ivy. You do not want it. It’s invasive, impossible to remove and rats love to hang out in it!

Yeah that's Hedera ivy, English or Algerian I dunno. That's what it looks like when you grow it as a ground cover in CA. It looks really good (if you have someone dedicated to keeping it in check).

Was it popular in the 60s? Maybe! That would explain why it's still everywhere. You can't get rid of it. :)

This is another case of "i want this unidentifiable plant from a picture on the internet."

It does not matter what the plant in the picture from the internet is. What matters is what plant will grow in the site conditions you have in CANADA to give you a similar look.

PS. It looks too tall in a number pf pictures to be ivy. Particularly the one with the blond woman.

The stuff on the parkway and parts of the lawn, right? That's the ivy. Not the taller hedge lining the sidewalk.

It's not unusual to see ivy grown into a low hedge though. "Hedge" might not be the word. :P

Maybe the sharp well maintained edges make the ivy look taller whatever it is, but I am not confusing it with the real hedge lining the wall and sidewalk.

The leaves on the plants in the hell strip in photo #2 appear to be heart-shaped, for whatever that's worth. I have no idea what ground cover with heart-shaped leaves grows in Pasadena, CA.

As much as I like the look of English ivy, I would never plant it. Too invasive, and if you have siding on your house it will damage it.
