Do you guys think I should go to the edge of the brick with the shiplap/it’s trim, or stop maybe 6in short on each side.

What are you planning to do around the fireplace itself? Knowing that would help me understand your basic plan. Shiplap could look great right up to the edge of the surrounding trim but it really depends on whether you are going to put tile or some other type of material,around the fireplace. As for the mantel, I would go with something that is more modern than a wooden beam. Maybe a floating shelf???

The shiplap should definitely continue to the edge of the brick and to the ceiling. The shelf/mantel should also continue the same width of the brick. White for the brick hearth unless you’re changing the wall to a lighter color? If you are using a lighter wall color, then you might consider black or charcoal for the brick hearth.

@dennis it has dark brown flooring and a gray walls.

We couldn’t be happier with our decision…and to take it a step further we bought an old tobacco barn beam for our mantle. Looking at the cost of bluestone, my husband then made a cement hearth which as no seams!

I like. Are you going to trim around the fire place or leave as is?

We decided against the trim, thought it would be too busy!
