Area looks dark, so I would start with a chandelier. This is an opportunity to give people a taste of your home. I would look for a colorful (but not too bold) rug that fills the space. Pick a pleasing color from the rug and repeat that color in the art.

Look for a griege (combo of grey and beige) background color. I have a family room rug in greige with blue designs over hickory LVP in a Stonington Grey room. The greige acts as a neutral. Lots of big online rug sellers will have options in many color palletes and decor styles. Many have great return policies, too. Low risk so embrace some color.

Yes the floor tile color and design is not the best 😖 But thankfully it will be changed in about 2-4 months. We are redoing the floor in the room to the right—it is currently concrete ;) so thinking about running the same floor thru the foyer. And the darkness is a problem! Very depressing area :( At one point we were thinking of redoing the doors and having ones instead with windows.

Curious about living with unfinished concrete- how long have you done that? I’m considering removing existing tile and carpet, moving in and taking my time to refinish. Sorry no help on the design question but I think your doors are beautiful.

For me it would be doors with windows definitely. A beautiful rug- larger than what is currently shown- and with some color. Then I'd add a large piece of art work on the wall where mirror is and one opposite. I'd remove everything else - there is nothing wrong with open space.

It's depressing because the lighting is so bad. A chandelier is needed.

Is it possible to continue the wood into the foyer? It would eliminate having 3 different floorings within your view. It would give your space a richer look.

Unify all the flooring if you can; that would be primary to my approach. IMO, a foyer serves to introduce you, your style and to hint at what one may expect the the adjoining rooms/spaces. Does that suggest anything to you about what you might want to do here?

Looks like your house was built during the "brown/beige trend" so updating it using gray was not the best idea. A wall color that better complements your orange-y floors/doors and your peachy tile would make a huge difference.

Before you pick a floor for that front room, you need to consider how it will fit into the whole house design.

Lay wood in herringbone pattern for the foyer. I think u can match stain.

I'd remove the small plant stand, use a large rug right at the door that is wide enough to encompass both doors, and add a large piece of art to the empty wall furthest from the door. Mount the mirror so it's not leaning. If you can continue your wood into the entry that would remove the higher transtion strips and look the best. The gray walls don't work with your warm wood doors.

Thank you all so much! I never really thought of the greige paint matching with the all wood doors! So maybe we change the paint color or all the interior doors!! We weren’t planning on keeping them too much longer as this is an older house and we are slowly redoing things—we painted the walls about two years ago but I am already kinda regretting the color. We wanted some thing neutral to go throughout the house but we may not have chosen wisely ;) and i should add that one of the foyer walls is attached to the greatroom that is 29’x34’ and has 25’ ceiling so its a pretty overwhelming room 😬
The wood floors were custom from previous owners (came from north carolina) so we are having a hard time matching but we def want to change foyer floor and we need a new floor in room to the right that also leads to a kitchen that will be remodeled in a few months so we need to find something to work with all rooms…but we also really like the wood in our great room and hallways so i hate to rip it up :(

maybe we can pull a piece of it up and take it somewhere to see about a match… The previous owners even had something done to distress and nic the floors so it may be a tough one to match :(

@ker9 the concrete floors haven’t bothered us too much! I mean they aren’t the prettiest but i heard you can paint it to make it look more finished—we just never got around to that part!
We were planning on it being temp when we moved in and had to rip up the carpet but then realized we cant just change out that rooms flooring until we figure out our new kitchen layout and remodel.
Im embarrassed to say its been almost a year and a half thats it been like that.
We also have 3 kids and a couple dogs that are good at messing things up so it works for now but we really need to get moving on our home improvements ;)

We would try a much larger (and brighter) rug in the entryway and perhaps look into adding a chandelier and some artwork over the console.

I’d put a larger rug, a large plant next to console or some greenery to brigten the space, and an ottoman bench on the wall in front of console. Also, a large art (simple, not too busy) on the wall above ottoman.
