Room is 11 x 15. That bar/buffet leads into the dining room.

You'll find that this style of table is very difficult to work with because the trestle and feet will interfere with chair placement. I know because I have one. It would work best with one or two benches and a pair of upholstered master chairs at each end. Any seats will have to straddle some of the support structure, and the chairs on the end won't slide up under the tabletop due to the base being in the way. They work well with a banquette because corner table legs interfere with people scooting in and out of the bench, which may have to be custom if you want it to fit within the two large feet of the table.

Is your table the darker color? If so that will aid to bring the color in from the kitchen because the bar is wood. Being that floor is so much lighter you want to keep the table the dark color as well as the chairs. Actually the wall color is very nice. What is the blonde colored wood sticking in? Hopefully that is movable? I would take it out or paint it dark-it doesn't fit. If you definitely want to change the walls then paint them the same as the pretty color in the picture behind the bar. That would be very nice and cohesive. The chandelier is Very rustic. If you want to keep it consider painting it a lighter color or a pow color to coordinate with dishes, glasses, favorite color you use a lot. Like if you design the table and room with beachy then paint it turquoise with the white candles and those colors used on the table as well. Or even cream to match the walls would be nice or black. It will overtake your style otherwise as it is so country/cowboy and your kitchen bar is very modern. A nice rug under table would be nice. Either go with colors with brown, white, cream and the chosen decorator color (turquoise) because I fear that a solid may make your table and chairs look tiny due to the fool color being so different from the furniture. All wood chairs painted dark to match the table would be nice and can just pick up three different types of backs. and if you go with that decorator color then can paint the head and foot chair to be the decorator color like white, or turquoise. As for as artwork, choose black and white family photos with dark brown frames or a large painting or print where the other artwork is. Check out Art.com. I think the beachy theme would be beautiful or even the green like in the submit button and paint the light this color and add it into the table with plants and flowers and the artwork.

two benches and two chairs would work well

I would consider one bench but not two. I just don't want my grandma trying to slide in and out of a bench... We would use this for family parties

Are these zinc madeleines too casual? I want it to be casual but still elegant. Are they comfortable?

Lets just ignore the light fixture. I'll get rid of it eventually.

When ready choose a light fixture around 26" in diameter to be in proportion with the size of the room. Usually anything in the 25"-30" range should work. We have many options available at www.mylampshadeworks.com

For what it's worth, I like your wall color and I think your chandelier goes quite well with the rustic nature of the table. I am not a big fan of benches, but I can see that they would be a good idea with this type of table. Maybe Grandma could sit at one of the end chairs??? I like the mock ups that were done for you too. I say find something that is comfortable, fits under the table and that you like. Nothing wrong with an eclectic look!

I hope you don't me asking, but what do you think of the Montecito table? I love the look of it on their website, but our local store doesn't have one to see in person.

At the price point, I'm very happy with it. I love the finish of the top, I'm not worried at all about glass rings or scratches. I really wanted a table where I wouldn't hold my breath fearing my guests or kids would hurt it. This is that. The legs are beautiful and the leaves pull out nicely from the slides - no split in the middle of the table. It's actually much nicer and more solid feeling than I expected. The top has planks of wood so it has a rustic feel but could be used in sophisticated look too.

Thank you so much. It reminds me of the Restoration Hardware Trestle table that I see all over Houzz with the Martine chairs, but sounds like it can be used by a real family. The RH sales associate told me to stay away from their reclaimed wood tables if you are going to use it, not a winning endorsement. I'm looking for one to put in a big breakfast area where we eat all of our meals, so something just for looks won't work for me. Thanks again for your help, it's a big step to order a table I've never seen but it seems perfect. Would love to see your pictures if you post them with the new table!

Lori - here's a real life photo

I think the first question to ask is what style and feel you want your room to have. All of the comments have recommended several fine options but I've not seen what you're wanting to accomplish in this room. Your trestle table seems to indicate a fairly rustic feel but the wainscoting on the wall and the crown and floor moldings are very formal. The floor itself appears to lend itself to go either way. Since you are replacing the light fixture, you are left with two quite divergent styles that will take some thought to pull together. I feel that once you decide on the direction you want to take, your decisions for not only your chairs but the entire room will be much easier to make.

I want it to be sophisticated but casual. We will have dinner parties but not fancy. I have a very open floor plan so it needs to fit into the rest of the house which is pretty contemporary, restoration hardware stuff but pretty casual.

Check these out. I'll give you the link if you like them. Found them on Wayfair. They have a bit of a contemporary feel while echoing your trestle table. The ones above feel a little too lightweight for the heft of the table. (I've never attached pictures on here so here's hoping.)

Well, that was easy. You could mix the chairs with a bench or two upholstered end chairs to get the more sophisticated feel you're looking for.

I am also looking for kid friendly chairs, I've been thinking about doing faux leather covered parsons chairs that I can re-cover once they're older for the main chairs, and two nicer arm chairs for the ends. Or upholstered chairs with removable, washable covers.

@kikiandkyle .. sounds like a great idea. Wayfair, Hayneedle and Overstock.com are great places to start looking for styles. Also, If you have a Home Goods Store close by, that's a great place to find unique pieces at a fabulous price.

The white chairs in your mockup look a little light for the table. With a table with that heft, I think you need more substantial chairs with it. Perhaps something like leather parsons chairs might be an option. I would remove the chair rail in the room.

The table is beautiful and solid, just what you want with small kids, can handle plenty of abuse. The light fixture is on the same scale and would go well with the table, they are both have Spanish colonial influence. With chairs you have to be on the same scale as the table, kind of square and heavy so that chairs stand up to the table. You can go modern and clean, if that's what you like, or add benches, or go for heavy Spanish chairs with tall backs, many styles would work as long as the scale matches the table.
