65 for sure

I would think a 65” wide TV should be sufficient….it’s over 5 feet wide! And it will be more compatible with the fireplace opening.

Do size you want. A few extra inches won’t make much difference. Just not over edges of walls!

Our fireplace was wider than yours in our last home but this was only spot for our 65” TV. It took a little getting used to but it worked out fine. Since I was usually in the kitchen looking at fireplace wall, I could see everything easily! Lol. Football games while cooking and setting out goodies on our huge island. From a purely design point of view, over fireplace is not my recommendation. But life is too short so sometimes you just gotta do what makes you happy! Lol

What if you got a new console and put the TV to the right of the fireplace on an angle well in front of the air conditioner?

Hi, yes, i had consdered that and measu it out, but really above fireplace is only plsve that makes sense as the room is square with windows on both other non pictured walls.

If to the side, it would block a window, make the room asymmetric, require an even smaller tv to fit, and could be viewed by only one couch instead of both.

It looks like the 65' might work the best over your fireplace, as you don't want the TV to hang over the sides of the mantle.

I would go with your smaller sized tape marks. In my opinion, if you match exactly to the fireplace width it will be competing for attention. A smaller size will keep your fireplace "important". Good luck.

If you place over fireplace, get a good bracket that extends so you can pull down a bit and tip it forward for better viewing. Has to be secured into studs.
