I don’t know. I thought the whole point of having seating at the island was so the cook could be interacting with guests or family members. But this has half the people with their backs to the cook and the other half with a raised counter in between, obstructing sight lines and making conversation difficult. It seems kind of unfriendly, almost like it was designed to purposely exclude the cook.

It's a clever use of space if you have the space to make it work. I prefer the versions where only one bench abuts the island and then you put chairs on the other side of the table. Like this:

As someone who has never really liked stools or tall chairs, I like this idea. It allows a table in a smaller space. My British MIL had one to the side, and we loved the bench seating. But my stove top is on island. I'd melt someone's hair, Lol.

This has been around for a while - the trick is having the room to pull it off! By me we don't get alot of kitchens in those sizes!

You can pullout the table to fit more people as needed.. Otherwise it stays out far enough for you to fit a plate .
